Trail critter photos!

Did ya smell them before you saw them? Having rode in Az often now that I know the smell I can smell them sometimes and never see them.

Didn't smell them at all. Perhaps the breeze was blowing the other way. There were 4 of them rummaging in the brush. I understand they use their scent to mark their territory, as well as their "herd" members.
Sure was cool seeing them (guess they didn't feel threatened, they paid no attention to me, just rummaged around for 5 minutes then wandered off).

Came across this guy (pic below) strolling down the Coyote Run trail at Aliso. Have never seen a tarantula before, thing was huge (that's an XL glove next to it). On the same ride saw 8 deer together (2 bucks with nice racks, 2 fawn, 4 doe) and what I think was a fox (or a small coyote with lots of color, it was definetly not the usual coyote grey).

Couldn't get a good pic but saw a crawfish in a stream in Sycamore Canyon. Now the question are those suckers native or should I let the city know about it since I know they are trying to restore this area.

I'm so bummed I couldn't get my camera out fast enough. I took my 14 Y.O. nephew out to show him around Chino. On Telegraph, about 1 mile before the first picnic bench, I caught a quick motion dropping off the side of the road. I slowed and about 5' below us was a very calm bobcat. My nephew's first and my second bobcat sighting. My nephew got a kick out of the fact that the bobcat had a fresh kill (bloody rabbit) in his mouth. After 15 seconds, he calmly walked into the brush. Just past the picnic benches we spotted four mule deer. A great day out there!

This guy was just chilli n near a fisherman I met and waiting to eat the old bait off the fisherman's pole.

That is an awesome critter sighting. I have only come upon one badger in my years of riding SoCal. They are out there but rarely seen! Thanks for the pic

Young buck in Aliso today with velvety antlers growing. May be his first rack, a little guy but not shy, about 15 feet off the trail. Told him to watch out for cougars :)
