What's up with the trail closed signs posted up STT and The Luge? I noticed several signs posted today but I was on Strava and didn't have time to read the fine print. Lol.

I heard they approved development for some custom homes out there and STT will be the gated entrance road.;)

I think it has to do with the sinkholes that keep getting larger

what Jwag said I'd guess. Last time there a week or so ago they had put posts in the sink holes that were on/near the trail, we presumed so a night rider wouldn't fall into them. Maybe they think this huge rain storm would make them allot bigger (shrug). I didn't see any closed signs at that point though..

^^ A friend emailed me about the closure, so I went up to check it out. There were a couple fence posts and flagging around the lower sinkhole, and a sign and flagging at the upper-- both at about the 2.5 mile point. I moved the trail upslope a few feet at the first spot, and used the dirt to fill the hole. The second hole was bigger and formed a small cavern under the trail, so I moved the trail upslope about 8 feet and filled the old line with brush.

Four riders stopped to help and it was greatly appreciated! Between us, we managed to get it all done, including the building of a small berm for descending riders and improved drainage to control run-off.

Kioti thanks for working on a fix. I passed up some trail builders yesterday while on my ride. If that was you thanks again! Is it possible to eventually widen some of the trail around where the sink holes are and that one section with the deep ruts? I need to put in some trail service soon Btw. ;)

^^I don't know about widening, but we can do some brush work in a few spots. We can also fix some ruts and restore drainage. I want to do some brushing on the Luge as well and can always use some help.

    Thanks Jim!!

I decided to ride Oaks instead of B* or STT/Luge today - what a mistake. The park really should have closed the park, it was a muddy, clumpy mess!!

    B* would have been worse.

Your bio says Palm Desert. I thought you moved to Indio.

    ^^ You're all very welcome.

I reported my work to the Ranger, along with photos and descriptions. Apparently they still have concerns about the area's safety. I'll be taking a look at it with them on Saturday morning. Until then the closure remains in effect, so I recommend treating the area with caution.

i fear that they are gonna destroy the rest of the trail to fix that small section, if they have to take heavy equipment up there.

^^I'm hoping they avoid taking heavy equipment out there as well. The trail has been recovering nicely since the fire, and is well on it's way to being singletrack, which is it's current designation. I personally don't see anything out there that can't be handled with hand tools and a few volunteers.
