I won't be working on SJ anytime soon. Jake and I are leaving for Utah on Saturday.

Just a thought though. If you ride SJ often, and it is one of your favorites, head to Home Depot, and get one of their fold able brushing saw's.

This is not the one I have, but it is similar.

Folding Pruning Saw: A handy tool that is easy to carry, folding saws are a smaller alternative to the bow saw, with the ability to get into tighter places. They are useful for limbing, some brushing, and removing small downfall. There is a vast array of blade lengths and styles. Some have replaceable or interchangeable blades.
Safety tip: Make sure blade is locked open before using.

They're light enough to carry in your pack, and when you come across the fall downs (bushes & small trees) stop and cut them back.
    They're about $18.

I've always tried to express that you don't have to be a member of a club to take care of the trails.
Groups like the Warriors Society and SHARE already do a tremendous amount of work.

I love to ride our local mountain trails, so I go work on them we they need it.
I know everybody out there has a favorite place to ride. If you hear, or see, that it needs work, stop riding for a second, pull your saw out, and give it some love.
It's easy, and will add a little extra to your already great ride!

Thanks for resurrecting this one. I didn't think of going up Trabuco (was thinking Holy Jim and Main Divide to get to Bell Ridge). Will give this route a shot in a few weeks.
