Has anyone done this event??? I'm somewhat tempted to do this. Local, looks like a decent route, Good time frame, etc..... http://tourdefoothills.com/Home/tabid/57/Default.aspx
I guess this is their first year to offer the full century. Looking at the route, it seems like a good fun route. http://tourdefoothills.com/TheRides/tabid/76/Default.aspx it seems that a 13mph/avg is what you have to maintain to finish the whole ride and make the cutoffs.
Unless I'm reading the calendar wrong and have some other race that weekend, I'm in for the long route. I've missed it the last two years due to races that weekend. I've ridden most of it already, and its some good riding through town
We did this a couple years ago, when they only offered the metric century. Mellow vibe, good support at the aid stations, route had police escorts for traffic control. One note: at the finish, they had two separate food lines... one for those who pre-registered (lots of delicious looking food, Pollo Loco I think), and one for those who registered same-day (rice, beans, maybe a few tortillas). It was kind of weird, finishing a ride then not being able to go to the "cool kids" food line, not to mention paying more for same-day registration. So, I would suggest pre-registering. Of course, this was 2 years ago so maybe things have changed.
I did the Tour de Foothill last year. I ended up riding with a few people from Jenson and it was a lot of fun. Last year I did the metric century but this year they are added a full Century this year. I'll probably do it again, depending on the weekend it falls on.
I've done it for the past two years (only one food line last year). Really col vibe and a great event. Definately planing to do it again this year.
The problem is due to work I wont have a chance to get on a bike until Sunday. I dont think I really need to put much training, just need to get some riding in, but my schedule right now is HELL. I am hoping things change next month.
My road club (Cycling Connection) is a major contributor to this ride and we ride as course marshals. I've done it every year and really enjoy it as it does stay mostly to the foothills with a moderate amount of climbing. Like CC said, this is the first year we have offered the century. We are going to ride the century course next weekend if anyone wants to join us let me know and I'll find out where we are going to meet. We will have a few slower climbers so the pace will be moderate, we should average around a 17 mph pace. We will regroup and no one will be left behind. I'll print up some route sheets too.
RIDING THE CENTURY THIS WEEKEND? I am in but where are you meeting? I have done the metric the last two years and the 34 milers the year before that.
