It's pretty good front or rear - I used to run it F/R on my 26 hardtail. It looks like it resembles a Hans Dampf, but its tread pattern is not as aggressive. It's a lighter, faster tire, admittedly with less grip than an HD. Sidewalls are thin, and so watch it in rock gardens.
The folding bead version can also be set up ghetto tubeless with Stan's and a compressor, but it will leak air faster than other brands I've tried.
As a matter of fact if you want to come get them I have 2 old ones sitting in my garage. 26x2.3, somewhat worn, but should be serviceable. Free, if you want to try them out. PM me if interested.
