Like Poison oak, ticks are in just about every socal park with the exception of the higher elevations. Most Ticks are in the tall grass in the meadows and in the scrub.

I found one on me after my Chiquita trail ride last week. I found it on my arm about an hour after my shower!!!.

I grabbed it with a tissue and tried to squish it but it was to hard!!!!!
I flushed the bastard.

It did not bite me, I got lucky

I'm not sure exactly what elevation ticks are below but when i said higher elevations i meant mountains like the San Jacento Mountains( about 10,000 ft), San Gorgonias(11,500 ft) and the higher elevations in the La mountains.

Every where I have hair. And I have hair every where except my hands and feet.

I do a habitual "tick check" every time I stop to wait or catch my breath . It gets em off before they make to my cuffs or deep in the fur. I think that DEET might deter them a bit but by no means has been fool proof. Don't wear black or very dark clothing they look for that and camo to it. All my paranoid precautions and I still find ticks hours after shower on ocasion.

ticks are gross, and carry lots of diseases. when you find a tick on you, keep it so you can identify what disease you have afterwards

I found ticks after riding recently on Turnbull on my white socks after I took off my shoes. With the trails overgrown right now it's hard to avoid them, kinda why I've been avoiding the trails. If you hike you can sometimes see them hanging on the ends of vegetation waiting to catch a ride. I've been bitten before and luckily nothing happened. Just plucked them out and burned the head that was stuck in my skin, but I think that's an old wives tale.

I've found numerous ticks on my dog and always have to do tick checks after taking her hiking. The best is plucking a big fat bloody one out and popping it.
