Horrible. I've nothing else. Godspeed and may the family of the murdered cyclist find peace knowing their loved one died doing what he loved.

    Absolutly horrible.

Crazy how forgiving and how much grace the victim's wife can show. I hope the dude learns something from her.

Well, in merely asking us a series of questions, Plato revealed that there is no such thing as justice at all, & then showed how instead, it's whatever we want it to be at any given time.

I'm inclined to want an intensly physical combination of preventative action and revenge.

Probably a good thing what I want doesn't matter.

Uggg... the comments some people make piss me off (at te bottom of the articles). There are many jackasses in the world. :(

Good 2nd article, but I wonder just how much "history" was factored in the jurys decision?

US is very good at putting and keeping people in jail, we have the highest incarceration rate in the world. I have found that if I rely on the newspaper to make moral judgments I am possibly getting a slanted story and possibly mislead by the spin. Personally I put more credence on a Judges decision than a journalists need for a story. Remember Judges are elected officials so too many bad rulings and they won't be re-elected. Always more to the story.

The opposite is true, law and order folks have passed so many mandatory sentencing laws that we literally have to make decision who to keep in jail. People that are less likely to reoffend are the first to be given an alternative to jail when a bed is needed.

I am all for strict sentencing for vehicle related bike deaths IF there was negeligince. Sentences are too light for those texting, amongst other things. However, not all vehicular bike deaths are criminal. Sometimes there are legitimate accidents. From reading the 2nd article, this may be one of those cases. And then again it may not. In reality, we aren't in the courtroom and don't have all of the facts.

That young Newport chick that had multiple violations and killed the biker . . . Throw the book at her.

Unfortunately, she only got 4 years -- Drunk while texting. Wasn't her first DUI either. The guy that killed the doctor in Newport Coast and ran got 4 years as well.

I agree it is VERY unfortunate and also why I said what I did about criminals getting off all the time. Still not surprising !

Sorry Stepper' ......4 years for killing someone is not enough.

Conversly, a kid 17, texting kills a child, 6 on a bike. Gets 21 years for vehicular manslaughter. I know the parents of the kid who died and the judge who heard the case.. The judge's comments to me were, "bottomline, two kids lost their lives that day." This was simply a tragic turn of events, including bad judgment.

To me, the Co case is far worse due to the history against bikers.
