This is why I don't ride road. If I crash on the trail, it's probably my fault, not some stupid inattentive driver.
Clearly intentional, the driver may not have meant to hit the cyclist, but he did intend to buzz him. The driver only stopped cause he saw the camera on the bike I bet. Throw him in jail!!
Poor guy. Those guttural moans sound like a dying animal. For a while I didn't think anyone was going to stop for him.
holy cr@p, I'm already scared enough of this when I ride road, to see this happen does not help... im shocked to hear so many cars drive by while he lay on the ground.
The car that stopped was not the one that hit the cyclist. I sure hope the camera got the license o,ate on the pickup that hit hi,
The driver that struck him did stop... http://www.tylerpaper.com/TP-News+L...-monday-morning-bullard-accident#.U8nEnlZW3y_
Lucky to be alive. The guy probably wanted to buzz him and blow black diesel smoke as a joke. Hope the driver has really good insurance, he's going to need it. Amazing how many people drove by, made me wonder. I ride both road and mtb, but less and less on the road because the likely hood of major injury with a car inpact is much greater than laying it down on a mtb. God speed to the rider.
Wow that guy is so lucky and blessed to be alive I am so not going to ride the road bike tomorrow I will find some dirt ride and hurt myself
selfish a*holes that didn't stop to help a fellow human being...that just pisses me off!! Just because I choose to go out and ride my road bike and keep myself healthy doesn't give anyone the right to go and be a D!CK while trying to hurt me! just my $0.02
Seeing how the guy did stop and called for help(at least that's what the story says) I am kind of inclined to believe that he really didn't see him and was distracted , tired or something that caused him to drift over and the worst possible time. I ride aide road and my first thought was with a shoulder that wide , why hug the line especially on a high speed road like that.
I'm guessing there's a bunch of debris collected near the center median. You never know what's in that crap.
You must have not watched the video. That entire 4-6ft lane looks pretty clean to me. Anytime i ride on the road, i am on the curb side of the bike lane not the road side. My tires only require 2 inches of clear path. I'm sorry this guy got hit and hope recovery is quick, but, i do everything in my power to stay as far away from danger as i can. I've got family to come home to.
Hard to tell if the lane was clean or not. My wife and I went to Texas a couple of years ago. We rode in Flagstaff, two days in Albuquerque, then we arrived in Texas for 6 days and never once took the bikes out of the car. Every road we saw either had no shoulder and people drove 50 mph or there was a nice wide shoulder, lots of debris, and people drove 80+ mph. We were too scared to ride so we didn't. It's hard to think how the roadies out there do it. Watching the video again it looks like he is at least 3 feet from the white line when he was struck.
Is it odd that a good part of my displeasure would be over my bike, which does not heal (unlike my body)?
It's odd right?! that people would just keep driving by. Had a similar incident when I was 11. I had crashed on my bike (still don't remember what happened) and was laying the side of the road similarly to this gentleman. There were about 6-7 cars that drove by that didn't stop. I could understand if it was a busy highway with no shoulder, but this was in a residential neighborhood! Finally a nice gentleman pulled over and walked me back home. Hope this guys has a nice clean recovery.
glad he is ok..or getting there..I ride sidewalks even when going to the local store to pickup some groceries..into traffic..I'd rather worry about the idiot driver than getting blind sighted..geez..
