Aside from two halves of orange and some OJ Justin picked up, I went unsupported for VQ. Oh, I did have a fig newton and fake chocolate thing at the top of WHT  I was afraid to stop!!
o ok. thats going to be a lot of stuff i have to carry. what were your guys finishing times for the traverse last year?
Since my shot at sub 7 hr went out the window on Maple Springs, I had 1 of those burgers at WHT, a couple more Advils and a soda. Man that hit the spot.
Im 15, so what class would I be in? Would I be in the intermediate 18-30 class? On a scale of 1-10 how hard is the traverse?
Last year's Traverse I would say was equally as hard as CC. In some ways it was easier because you didn't have any sketchy, loose, rocky, tricky downhill sections like Motorway or Upper Holy Jim. This year's Traverse looks very tough. I don't know if I could make it this year. Not only does it start later and have a shorter cutoff, but you have to bring all your water. This extra weight will make the climb slower, and you will have to ration it better so you don't run out before the 35 mile mark. After that it's downhill, but thats a LONG way. Last year it was pretty hot, no way I could have done it with 1 camelbak and 2 bottles of water. That's why they call it the WARRIOR'S SOCIETY. Can't blame them of false advertising.
There has to be 3 riders to create a class. If not, then you get bumped into the next age group until there are at least 3 riders to make a class.
You would probably be bunched up with them. If you are the youngest, you will get special recognition. How hard is it? It all depends on your level. For some, it will be a 10, for others, just another day on the trails. How you prepare will decide that for you. Come out and join me on some Traverse training rides that I'll post in April.
Not ready or signed up. I am stepping up the pace. CHSP tomorrow, fontucky or JPL wensday, Coto thursday, sart sunday.
i'm hoping this years traverse goes better than last years for me. i had only been riding for 10 weeks when i did it. i had no idea what i was getting into. a buddy of mine said "hey, you want to try this" and i said " sure, what the hell". now i know whats up, so i'll be ready. i'll have 13 months of riding under my belt for this years.
this was the same as last year, but there was water and Cytomax and four corners.....that is NOT happening this year?:?:
+1 more. I'm thinking about taking a shot at the Traverse Sufferfest, but at the very least I'd be down for some training rides. And you know I'm a natural born sweep rider - I can't go any faster!
If you don't make the cutoff times how do you return to the staging area? From 4 Corners - back to Blackstar or down Maple Springs (closed?). From UHJ - lower HJ?
hmmm, my poll says I already voted to race and that's obviously a mistake; can't remember ever even thinking I'd do this one... Either way, I felt so good about working the CC/VQ that I've decided to do it again with the Traverse. See you somewhere on the course .
I read somewhere back in this thread that THE TRAVERSE is unsupported? J, could you clarify what the race will and wont have for the racers. Better start training without water.....
