Congrats on all this Andy. Looks fun. Maybe I can jump in the non-spandex Cat Slow class at one or two events.

We would love to do a downhill, but in a county park?
The descents would be about 2 minutes? Hardly worth the money to charge for an event.

We are interested in doing an enduro or two, but that is taking a bit of open mindedness from other parties involved....

Im just kidding andy. The lawsuits would come out big time if anyone crashed. OAKS could be a possibilty with top of barham to chutes A. More like a super d, but I jest. If you can pull something off like that Id be in for sure.

yeah we can we get some super d/enduro action in aliso/lcwp? lots of good legal loops. rock it, car wreck, and meadows would all be legit legal downs to take advantage of. I see most riders in aliso rocking AM rigs not a whole lot of xc taking place in the park.

    Really diggin' the Oaks course:

[h=4]COURSE[/h]This years start and finish will be in Group Area 4 of Irvine Regional Park
We are cutting out the Irvine Park loop and adding more single track in Santiago Oaks.

Racers will begin by hopping on the horseshoe loop and making a quick right on Willows and continuing on Egret to the Dam. Down the hill, through the dirt lot and out Pony Trail, racers will make a right on Santiago Creek Trail and then start the climb up Goat. Racers will make a left on Bumble Bee and continue all the way up to Oak Trail which they will then ride up to drop Yucca Ridge. At the bottom, racers will make a tight left turn and climb Coachwhip. Making a right at the top, racers will ride along Barham Ridge, down Chutes, and out Roadrunner loop to the Finish!

New to racing and biking in SoCal but thought it would be fun to try one of these races out (more of a race against myself). Could someone tell me in which category I should race? I'm 200lb 37 year old, and my best time up mathis is around 14mins and best time down rockit is around 6 mins ( I can't clear that one up rock section just after the rock wall).
    Thanks

If you are new to racing (raced anywhere other than SoCal?) I'd suggest Beginner class or Clydesdale. If you blow away the field then step up to Sport next time around.

I also have difficulty clearing that climb half-way down Rock-It. I hear the trick is to get some momentum and roll over the large rock on the far left, then head up the rock section from left to right. I just haven't gathered up the "cahones" to do it alone by myself....

If you are racing against yourself the category doesn't mater.
If you are 199 lbs. don't race the Clydesdale (I'm not looking forward to racing 37 years old lightweights).

That depends on how much I eat for breakfast! :)

Also, I would like to not finish last if possible...

I've never raced before either, but I'm thinking of signing up for the first event at Aliso. I noticed there is a pre-ride scheduled for April 19th. Will someone be leading this? And how many people typically show up?
