Since last year's Rwanda I have learned the importance of proper post ride recovery nutrition. I am feeling way better today and yesterday than I did last year. Last year I was in a bad way for half a week. Sure part of it is being in better shape, but I haven't been riding that much. I think a big factor is good recovery nutrition along with proper fueling/hydration through the ride.

I downed an ice cold bottle of organic chocolate milk. I followed that after a shower with a fruity green kale smoothie. I drank a couple of glasses of Naked Green Juice throughout the day/evening. I did have a real food, too. I was famished. I am sure the post ride Excedrin didn't hurt either. :)

Ive been drinking After Max and its done me well. I recently bought a jar of Mike's Mix just to try out. If it works out, and the reviews have been good, Mike's Mix is the best deal out there.

Check this deal out. 8 pounds for 50 bucks shipped. About 5 months worth for me. 2 scoops per 8 mile ride. 3 scoops for 15 miles :)

What I need to find is a sports drink thats not so loaded with food color. Ive been drinking Cytomax. It works, but it tints my Camelbak a strange color :(

I have been experimenting with my own sports drinks from the Thrive Diet: http://www.nomeatathlete.com/thrive-sports-drink/. There are a couple of other variations, but it is all natural. Maybe it doesn't work as good as Cytomax (which I have used), but has been working well for me. However, now that I have been using the Tangle Frame Bag to hold my bladder, I have nowhere to put the Sports Drink bottle.:(

I put Cytomax directly into my bladder. That way, I get a steady dosing throughout the whole ride.

good thread, it will be interesting to read about everyone's post ride recovery drinks/meals.

I noticed the flaw in your post-ride green veggie fest: you skipped the shower beer. Every long ride deserves a post-ride shower beer. It is quite assuredly one of the great, simple joys in life. I recommend a good ipa, personally; green flash west coast ipa or Sierra Nevada torpedo are my go to shower beers.

shower beer kicks a$$! Natty Ice for me. Warm shower + Cold beer= Heaven

Simple Math

Chocolate milk all the way! Oh, and EmergenC. I had water in my camelback, and HEED in my water bottle. Great combination (thanks AJ :)). Just don't put 6 scoops of HEED in your camelback and go ride B* in 100 deg with no other hydration method.....but that's a different story ;) I felt great after the 50.

Perhaps, but I don't consume fermented beverages.

I hear Excedrin works for PMS too...

Maybe. I am allergic to Ibuprofen, so that limits some options. All I know is that Excedrin Migraine is a godsend. If I get to it early enough I can nip an oncoming migraine before it puts me down for a couple of hours.

I often enjoy a post ride IPA while IN the shower. That's heaven.

This! Had my first shower beer (Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout) earlier this year - it is heaven.

Actually, after my first 50 mile race this past weekend I tried to get some water in me, had a recovery drink, more water, went out to late lunch, had a beer waiting for food... Was a little toasted since it took a long time to get lunch, sat in the car for 7 hours, and felt awesome Monday morning.

I think it was the post-race beer that did it! :D

So true. Warm Hammer Products... vomit.

I used to have a swivel cup holder in my shower for the pre-bar showers but I think this is off topic. Recovery drink for me consist of a Monster Zero and what ever burger I can get.
