Yesterday it took me 6:48 to climb from post to post

In my current state of out of shapeness, I think even with a flawless run, I could only cut in to the 6:30s

JJ and Andrew did at about 9:30. I took the fire road that runs parallel instead. BIG MISTAKE.

After work today, climbed Meadows 13.25, went down meadows, main road to cholla, climbed Cholla in 4.50, yelled a bad word, went straight to linx and descended then out to the church entire ride 1.01 AND got home in time to pick the kids up from ballet! Time to train for the CC. Heart rate max 179, ave 170. Probably should have puked:eek: but had to get home.

    I tried it Wednesday morning.

Like Gene, I have knee problems.
Like Gene, I didn't want to push it too hard close to CC/VQ day.
Like Gene, I coasted through MILF and straight to Cholla with no warm-up.
    Like Gene, I middle-ringed it.

    Unlike Gene, I dropped a mighty 6:10.

Then I came back at the end of my ride, after hitting Rock-It, Mathis, and Meadows, and granny-geared it at a ferocious 7:20 pace.
    #-o  #-o

I could see doing it on fresh legs, slightly warmed up, and getting into the mid 5-minute range. Anything below that boggles my mind. You sub-5 people are amazing, and sub 4 makes me wanna run you through a blood screening and some genetic testing to see if you're some next step in the evolution of the species.

OK, so yesterday I went up Cholla the first time in 6:20, which seemed kind of slow, I was in the granny gear the whole time. Then we rode over to rock-it and down it. Came back and did Cholla again in 6:29, but it seemed much longer and I suffered alot more. The first time I probably would have taken 7 minutes but I was thinking of this thread and went slightly faster. So thanks for the motivation!

I just got the little GPS app for my Blackberry called "BBtracker." I can't wait to use it this weekend. It spits out a number of tabled files that can be uploaded to Google Maps. It doesn't appear that I can upload it to geoladders but maybe someday soon it will allow it. I'm planning on breaking the 5min mark so wish me luck!

P.S. I picked up some new Shimano SLX cranks today from Chain Reaction and I'm going to replace my Saints. This will save me almost a full pound off the bike but more importantly rotating mass on my pedal stroke. I'll be interested to see if it makes a difference.

I just got back from Cholla and my super short loop and I did 6:33 up cholla. a 1/4 minute improvement. I think I will work on conditioning for a few months before I time myself again.

Is middle ringing it, riding up on the middle of the front sprocket or the rear?

    Must... be.... getting ..... old....ugh!

Took another shot at Cholla. Last week did it on the Blur in 4:25 and felt pretty strong with quite a bit left. This week went back with the 5.5 and that darn heavy Pike fork and did it in 5:10 and felt tired.... I'm going backward... getting weaker .... older.... slower....

Going to try the 29erSS next... But I think the gearing is a little too tall to race up (34 X 22)... would like to try a 32 X 22. When those 29" tires stop, it's soooo hard to get them started again.

Actylly, the time I "felt" was best (I didn't have my computer that day) was on the STR B'Day ride and Xhuskr convinced me to do a "warmup lap".
We left form MILF and headed straight to Cholla.

SS 'Cross bike and I cleaned it without slowing down and felt really great that morning. No warm up or anything. Seemed weird actually and even kinda flowy since I was carrying more speed than usual. too bad I don't have a time because it might all be just a mind-game but it FELT fast and I can post a < 5 min time most days there. ended up doing three trips up before the end of the day....

The gearing was 34 x 20 so I'm sure you might be able to post a good time if the lines are all good ;)

I showed up for the Aliso loopage ride this morning and no-one was there. Home page showed the ride on Friday, but the calendar says thursday?:?:.
Riding my go-fast 1x9 hardtail, I managed a 11:46 up mathis. Then I headed down Lynx in 2:20. I wonder how much faster I could be on the FS. Then I ran into Gary (commplex) and his brother at the bottom of cholla also wondering where the rest of the riders were. We headed up and I managed a 4:19 up cholla and Gary killed a 4:35 on his SS after being off the bike for awhile. To finish out the ride we went over to the TOW and down meadows, trying to avoid all the caterpillars.

    Absolutely!

Although I do think the 5 min time is more doable for us mere mortals.
I like Cholla because it isn't just a fireroad and getting a good time is as much about picking a good line as it is pushing the cranks.

    ha ha....

Yeah that was fun Steve. I definitely need to be hitting the trails more often if I am going to have any chance at stomping the rwanda ride.

You guys are all making me feel fast (and I'm surely not).

I spun up in my granny gear in 4:42 yesterday on a 29lb trailbike with legs that did 44 miles the day before.

I might have to go give it a go on my HT and give Gene some competition.

I tried again today with my full squish with the family and managed a 6:45. I didn't even clean the whole thing, I had to walk up a portion of the chutes and stalled at the rock. The wife rode the whole thing except the rock with lots of breaks between sections. It took awhile, but she didn't walk much of it.
