I posted this idea back in October, but it was buried in a different thread.

    Something new to consider:
As I was climbing Cholla for the 3rd time, I was thinking about starting a new thread - the Cholla 6 minute plus club. Here are the rules.

You must maintain forward momentum at all time.
You must not dab, stop or walk any part of it.
You must be on a bicycle (sorry Unigeezer).

    and here's the clincher:
You must actually be trying to get up the hill as quickly as you can.

For this contest, the more time, the better. Who can go the slowest, yet still keep moving? I believe I average around 7 mins. per climb, but I've never actually timed myself, because looking down at my watch would soak up valuable energy and blow my concentration. I also don't trust STRAVA times because they always record slower for me and faster for everybody else. Thus, STRAVA is inaccurate.

Time starts from where the bench used to be and ends at the intersection of the fireroad at the top.

I will find a traveling trophy to award each month - the Golden Anchor. Or, maybe just perpetual photos of Kate Upton. Who's in (for the contest)?

Strava says 32,595 attempts by 3556 people. First blush that just seems amazing, but what % of the riders even use Strava.... (and I'm nowhere near 5 and getting slower(

and yeah Chris I have a couple 9+ without stopping but I'm disqualified because I'm not trying to go fast, just survive for the next climb)

Where do we petition for addendum's?

You must chug 1 can of beer, before each attempt. Must be a can, none of that fancy, bottled chit.

Also, actual bags full of sand, fastened to your bike or person, are highly encouraged. We would hate to see anyone hurt, from gratuitous speed.

Both of those would be considered cheating. Anybody would go slow if weighed down by sand or alcohol, I am looking for people like Dave (dcrfx) and me who are just trying to get up the hill without stopping or barfing. Sounds like Dave wins. 9 mins is pretty tough to beat without stopping.

With my 22-36 gearing on my heavy 26er I might be a contender!

My Bronson C should be coming in mid next week. Im pretty curious on how it climbs up Cholla compared to my Stumpy 29er.

Good luck on your next venture up Cholla!

I climbed Cholla today - twice. Didn't stop. Didn't time myself. Didn't STRAVA. Smelled some barf as I was heading up towards Rock-It however.

I've got two dozen rides up Cholla logged now, with my best a couple weeks ago at 5:24. So I feel like sub-5 is in reach.

But then I look back and in 2009 I was at 6:11... So maybe by 2020?

A solid effort yesterday, got me into the sub-4 min Cholla club. 3:57.
Pretty sure I can get down to 3:50. Gotta get past the tuff chicks, in the neighborhood.

Climbed it on my Status today at 4:39 :) . I'll have to try it again when I've got a bike that doesn't weigh 48 pounds.

    THE PROOF

Great riding with you today and be there to witness this feat. I forgot to ask if there was enough distance from the group of riders that we waited at the bottom of Cholla or did you have to pass them on the way up?
