That super steep hill that leads up the the resting bench, and where Mathis drops down on the left, is a KILLER hill, and I climbed it only once on my unicycle.

Cholla is definitely an effort - I had a goal of cracking 3:30 yesterday and was able to post a 3:18! I was on my 29" HT w/ the fork locked out, standing/mashing SS style for 75% of the climb. By the end it was my upper arms that were drenched in lactic acid more so than my legs! It sure beats the gym tho.... :)

Kudos to all the <4 minute club!!
I know what a decent time that is! Sometime I hope to reach the sub-4 milestone myself.

Back in 2007/08 when I was hammering every climb, I did a sub 3, but no Garmin, Garmin connect, Geoladders or Strava then so it doesn't count. But I will give a sub 3 a go as well... soon and I'm not in good form at all ; )

If there's no GPS track, it didn't happen. :) It's to the point where if I can't find my GPS before a ride, I don't want to ride. :-(

I have been up Cholla 3 times..and to be honest, it scares me. If i can go up to the top with no rest i would be super stoked. I think my problem early on was that i rode it on granny gears the whole way and burned out each time. I will try to use other gears instead of the granny ones and hopefully make it up with no snags next time. You guys doing it in under 3 minutes are just amazing!

Bummer dude. I ride my bike becuase I love to ride. Strava and GPS tracking are just icing on the cake for me. Perhaps a week of no GPS tracking to fall in love with the ride again is in order.

Thanks Mike. I do have a time posted here of 3:47. This was in Feb of 2009. Here is that post:

Unfortunately, this was before Strava and I no longer have that Garmin device cause I lost it during the VQ that year.

SIGH... I remember when I was a member of this club. Injuries have kept me off my bike. Now coming back, I just hope to make it up Cholla without stopping...and before the sun sets.

I climbed Cholla non-stop on my second try last weekend, Strava says 00:07:23.

    Gotta keep pushing! :)

There needs to be a club for longest time without stopping. I got a 9:04 on my second trip up today. First trip up was 8:02. I suck at climbing right now but guess I'm alright at slow speed balance.

Only if you wear a helmet with two beers strapped to it and manage to drink both cans empty by the top... I prefer bottles, but that would just be plain reckless...

    That would be hiiiilarious!
The race should be climbing Cholla while drinking a 22 oz bomber of your favorite beer.
The SS crowd might be at an advantage on the drinking part but one handed climbing might be tough... maybe haul a$$ up to the top then chug the beer, while the geared folks just might granny and drink at the same time...

Do you guys use a Garmin Edge GPS? If you do you can sign up for Strava and there's a segment for the Chola climb. There you can see how you rank with others or you can also see how you rank with just your friends you're following. I think the fastest time i've seen on Strava is 2 1/2 minutes.

What about the 'I don't care how fast I got there, just glad I'm able to ride my bike' club? :?:

I'll smile and chat your ear off the whole time I have you in sight...Just thankful to be out there...
