Call it what you want but with DST alive again today marks the now official 2009 season opener to the mid week nuttiness we know and have come to love called Taco Tuesday.
Started last year by SheDevil (Kelly), Dusty (Nan) and I believe some others their small well behaved social tea party quickly turned into a weekly source of on and off dirt carnage and debauchery.
As you may learn, this is a ride where the language is hard core in your face no holding back smack talk
while the ride pace is mad crazy stoopid laid back chill (sippin’ on gin & juice
).
Join in and you’ll find Old and Young, Experienced and Noobs, XC Racers, Flatlanders, DH’ers. The stable of bikes typically include Big Rigs, AM’s, rigid SS, DJ/Urban bikes and everything in between, I think we even had a few tandems in the mix last year.
The peeps have included some STR celebs:steppie:, the root beer kid (Hugh), a bunch of weekly regulars (clearly they don’t work too hard
) but there always seems to be a few new fresh and way cool faces in the crowd.
Riders come from all across SoCal and beyond just to experience what many have called truly undefinable and impossibly forgettable. Unforgettable, unless of course you drank too much.
While clearly everyone has their favorite moments of the past, my personal on dirt smile (at someone elses expense of course) includes the renaming “ceremony” of our very own ChariotsofTires. Let’s just say, well, umm i bet he wont miss that turn again.
So where am i going with all this and what does this mean but...One down baby and a bunch more to follow with the days getting longer.
Being a “big picture guy" others on STR and among this ride are clearly better than I at RR’s and providing the small details that truly make the reports special so while I have minimal ability to match their magic all i’ll say is this.
Overall this ride as simple as it is (Peters canyon thus far which for those not in the know a fairly non-tech mid week shorty ~8 miles) rooooooocks.
The peeps rock
The nuttiness rocks
The tacos rock
The beers rock
And while i am not a big fan of desserts I am told by some very knowledgeable folks that the mud-pies freakin’ rock! (check out Ken's "O" face on the pic below)
That said and before we go to the pics below and footie [EDIT post #13], I will share some of my thoughts on tonights ride.
Life has been crazed and I missed most all the weekday rides since the end of summer. Today’s ride while as simple as it always is was a blast and great seeing some old faces and meeting new peeps on the ride.
While the banter on the dirt among all started off slow (I was getting a bit worried..have we got soft in the off season) I can honestly say it was kicked up a notch or two over dinner. With Doug (solid rider but newbie to this ride) and Rudy (TT OG fo sho) taking that brunt of the verbal abuse it is clear these guys can hang with the funky bunch and our turn in the smacktalk spotlight is just 'round the bend
I will not be able to join in next week (works sux) but hope to once again be a regular among the not so regular craziness known as TACO TUESDAY.
