I seriously would be pissed off if I paid to have a portrait done and the person came out looking like that. Is there a money back guarantee on portraits since there is such a small amount of room for error?

The terrible portraits happen when you have the first Tattoo shop you find do a portrait. That is the result of no tattoo research and chances are there was only 1 shop in their small-town and that was the outcome.

The dudes with the face tattoos are a breed of their own and should be left alone.

And people w/ tattoos like the Unicorn bangin' the dolphin are pure genius.

Never heard of anyone getting their money back, even if they made your beloved departed look half Freddy. Or if they tattoo your son's teeth coming out of his top lip. Best bet is to save up a LOT of dough and do a crazy amount of research on artists well qualified to do portraits. In all fairness, speaking as a former tattooer, portraits are the most difficult pieces. It's why I never attempted one and why a lot of "scratchers" shouldn't either!
Don't be quick to trust an artist's portfolio in the lobby either. There's no garauntee it's actually their work. Research research research. Tattoo machines have no eraser!

    Question about this one...

It looks like its on his chest from the way the shoulder and arm look.

    Where is his nipple?

    Am I missing something?

Wait a sec, Mr. Cool Ice is fake? Please tell me this isn't true...that's like learning that ninjas, pirates, and Chuck Norris are really just wimpy actors.

I have 2 tattoos that are quite tasteful. I have 2 more planned.

My personal favorites in the stupid tat department are people who don't speak or read Chinese or Japanese, and get a character or writing in either language tattoed, and trust that what they get really means what the artist tells them. There's a whole blog devoted to these pathetic tats that mean nothing:
    http://www.hanzismatter.com

A word of advice: Before you get a tat in a language you don't know, get a native speaker that you trust to be honest to check it first :)

Oh, and just because you checked it on the Interwebz doesn't necessarily make it true. Make sure it is a reputable site. And no, Wikipedia doesn't count. When it comes to Asian stuff, it's wrong a lot.
