RR: STT thurs evening

We had originally planned on Aliso but spent too much time at the BikeCo and hit up STT instead. This was Matt's maiden voyage on the new Nomad. Start time was about 6 and it was overcast and cool. Great traction everywhere - conditions were awesome.

Bike looks good VonDork! Just get rid of that rear tire.....unless you like having no traction So how did it perform? We want a ride report on the Nomad......how does VPP compare to a horst link rear end? 8-[

The New Nomad

Well, as you have seen I have a brand new Ano Slate Nomad that I took on its maiden voyage. I have owned several Santa Cruz Bikes including a Superlight, A Bullit, a Heckler, and a OG Blur. My last bike has been a Horst Link 5-spot. Comparing the rear end of the Nomad with the 5-spot is pretty difficult. The edge in climbing goes with to the Nomad. I didnt notice any brake jacking with the nomad, and when I rode a TNT flux, I did not notice it there either. The Fox 36 Van seems to need to be broken in, and maybe TurnerRob can help me out with that. The bike climbs much better than a 32.8 bike should, and I was able to out climb George on some of the climbs on his Yeti. The rear tire certainly rolls well, but it does not hook up as well as the Minions do, but I think I can get adjust my riding style to get used to them.

Lance, what you have done to my baselayer is probably nothing compared to what Kippie has done to it already!

i'm a little disappointed there is no shot of you kissing the top tube in front of the flag pole at the luge...

Spring

I'm running the default, should I go to the lighter one? I weigh about 158. Also, mabye yours had a better box than mine...

Nice ride indeed and 32.8lbs! WOW, should be a real good climber no doubt. Climbing on the 38.5lb Highline was quite the chore yesterday compared to the 5Spot, but thank GOD for ETA which helped quite a bit.

No that should be perfect for you. Where do you have the rebound and preload set at? I run my rebound about 2-4 clicks in from full fast....and no preload on the spring at all (stock spring). I run the high/low compression wide open also....I weigh about 160lbs.

Just do a few 5-foot hucks and I'm sure it will feel like buttah afterwards.
