It sure is a nice thing when you can have your lady ripin' up the trails with you. It makes the dinner conversation alittle more like shop talk. Welcome to the site:welcome:.

Oh boy, here comes the long-winded flog and race posts. There's only one of STP, only one! Thank god! :)

Cool, Regis. I see you're still kicking in the high desert. Sweet and welcome!

    STP!

I too remember many of your great posts from places (websites) past.

I'm very new here myself, but did get a chance to ride with many and meet a few of the STP old timers last weekend.

I think you'll enjoy being here.

    :welcome:

Thanks El Salt and Sir Truth!

A sincere thanks for your kindness in reading the long flog-athons I've posted!

BTW, Joe, you share the experience of only Tom Kenney and Dirt Shark in riding Ave P land. I remember that ride well. It's been stucco-raped by a local developer and half of it is now gone...

    BeeR!?

Lois, I share the same sentiments. I love the Stone IPA, but what's the story behind the 'smoked' Porter? I've been reluctant to try it, because I envision beer being filtered through campfire remains #-o.

Let me know what this beer is! BTW, Brewmaster and Lois, have you guys tried the "Old Viscosity" ale? Gawd, that is one, incredibly rich and tasty aged. I have trouble finding it and have had only two bottles of it. Oh, the agony!

Gotta go home and pack! Big Bear and XC racing await! Have a great weekend!

The story behind smoked porter is that they used some smoked malts (as opposed to kiln roasted malts) in the recipe. Smoked malt is just what it sounds like, grain that is slow smoked over a wood fire, just like you would smoke meat or fish. This does impart a somewhat smokey flavor, but not nearly that of the German Rauchbiers that originated the style. I love Stone Smoked Porter. I used it in my homemade BBQ sauce and pair it often with grilled foods.

Old Viscosity is fantastic stuff. It has been getting wider distribution lately, to the point where I see it at almost every good beer shop and even at BevMo. I am not sure where you live, but I have seen it at many places lately including:

    Vendome - Fullerton
    Red Carpet Wine - Glendale
    Walnut Liquorette - Walnut/Rowland Heights
    Lone Hill Liquor - Glendora

I would bet they have it at Hi Time in Costa Mesa and I have seen it at the BevMo in Chino Hills. If you still have trouble finding it, PM me and we'll work something out.

All this talk of beer makes me so happy. That's it, I'm bringing some good beers to share at the Blackstar to Beek's ride tomorrow!

Correction: You took me to Ten Ticks (aka Five Deer). I remembered that ride well, yes. You and your buddy were flogging one another while I quietly chuckled and tried to keep you two in sight. 8-[
I think you have me mixed-up with your ex-grass hopper, Jiffy. He was the one (aside from T.K.)who drove from OC and got a grand tour of Ave. P. I only wish I was that fortunate. Maybe in another life time!

All this talk of Jiffypop (aka HLD), socalmtb and flogs are making me misty. Can someone flame someone anon-style just for old time sake? Anyone got a goose-goose personality registered yet???

(snif) Perhaps we could put together a dictionary of mountain biking language so we all know to say "baby head" and "yard sale" on the trail when speaking amongst our selves....[-o-]

    I digress.

    Welcome, Reg.

Yep, Alaskan Smoked Porter is one of the best smoked porters out there. They release it once a year and it sells out quite quickly. Sometimes I find stragglers are BevMo that didn't get sold.

I like O'Fallon Smoked Porter too, but we never get it out here. I've only had it in Michigan.

Stopped by Bev Mo in Laguna Niguel tonight after the San Clemente Single tracks (great ride by the way) to pick up some Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout and Nut Brown... and picked up the last 11 of the gold medal 2006 Smoked Porters @ $2.00 each.... NICE:bang::bang::bang::bang:
