I understand that. Shorter headset/ shorter stem might get him into the safe clamping range of the stem... i.e. PINCHED by BOTH BOLTS of the STEM.

Headlock would keep it all together....

Or the moment load of a long lever (force x bar length x stem length) over a rather small area of alloy steerer tube.

Kinda hard to steer when the stem is no longer attached to the fork...

What you do for work and your ability to afford things is irrelevant to most of us I think as we all have been there or are there now.

Not seeing you become seriously injured or worse is our concern.

A part of me is still a bit on the side of this being a belated April Fool's thread.

I just can't believe an adult would seriously be concocting such a setup.

On the other hand, after being a plumber in the south for a number of years I did see my share of local handiwork.

Doesn't anyone have a spare fork for this guy to use? Maybe on the pay it forward thread there is one.

I'd give him my old RST fork off of my wife's Hardrock but I haven't ordered the new one yet from Drake.

The brown one looks real concerned and like he's thinking, "Seriously??? That's what you're going with? Who's going to feed me?"

When did Salsa and Raceface join forces to make quick release stems?

As everyone has stated that is too short....at minimum it should be atleast beyond that whole....even then it's sketchy...you should still have it extend beyond the location of the top screw like MANY have already said.....

Will you get hurt or have it fail....maybe maybe not....is it worth the risk? NO WAY

Even your dogs look worried, DON'T DO IT. A new fork is cheaper than a trip to the ER.

This is either the best April Fool's joke or the worst idea I've seen in a long time. Nancy (Denmo) answered your question correctly on page one - get a new steer tube pressed in, if you must keep that fork.
