article states lizards is first new official trail in lcwp in decades. Thats not true, stagecoach was opened in 2007 and stagecoach south was opened in 2011. Stagecoach was not even a preexisting trail. Reporters always get facts wrong. Edit: Chopper beat me to it, shoulda read the last post before I posted!
They're working on it.
I talked to someone from LCF last week at the bottom of willow. It sounded like once they open lizards they will start to work on/sanitize/pave/sustain (pick one) the two drunken trails. Lets just hope they actually designate the trails biking only, and get actual mountain bike riders to work on them once the time comes.
I would have to check out the maps, but is it possible the new extension to Stagecoach and Stagecoach itself is not part of LCWP? Is the area from the Nix Center part of the LCWP system? I always assumed it was a separate although enjoining trail system. Don't know, just asking...

I hope they pick Drunken Sailor over 5 to 9. The rock face at the end of drunken sailor is a Laguna classic.

the next opportunity in Aliso
I just got an email that the Laguna Canyon Foundation is looking for some help on Sunday (3/8) to work on 5 Oaks trail from 8:00 am to Noon. Since SHARE is already committed to a trail work day in Santiago Oaks I thought some of you might be interested in helping over there.
They do need an RSVP to Mike Hall at [email protected] if you can make it.
A well known trail running group has been running Lizards for several years...Closed signs are there, usually tossed into the shrubs by others. Rangers would rather have the trail open but until the State says ok, it's closed. Without the standard trail post up, look for where someone has tossed the closed signs, or call down to the ranger to give them a heads up.
BTW...runners are posting current Strava times too, so it's not just the MTB group that has a few @$$holes.
