#-o Sorry to say! Got a call this morning from my good friend Mikie Watson, not the kind of call one wants to get. On one of the jumps on the McGill trail yesterday he had a front wheel stans blowout, that sling shot, shot him out of a cannon, power slammed him to the right side of his body which resulted in a slightly collapsed lung! Collar bone break! Two broken ribs. OUCH! Big thanks goes out to RadioCraig for getting poor Mikie off the trail, and to the medication that will get him through, till he gets on the bike again. Mikie says he already misses us, and it is just the morning after. I hope his jonesin in the weeks to follow don't get to overwhelming. He seems to be in good spirits and has a good aditude as he has been here before. Say a prayer for Mikie or send some healing vibes his way.

    prayers and good vibes sent.

so the rim collapsed? or the tubeless tire blew?

my bud ate it on a front wheel tube blow out riding in front of me.

    was a horrifying scene.

From what he describes he heard the air leave the tire (tubeless) resulting in INSTANT SLAMAGE!

Man, bummer to hear about this. Hope Mikie's recovery goes well.

edit - that shot of the bead separation is something that I never gave really any thought to failing. Interesting.

Wonder if it was a UST tire? With a big seperation I am not sure a tube would have made any difference. Also wonder what tire and weight.

Due to how thin the side walls look, that looks like a non-tubeless Nevegal converted to tubeless.

Same thing happened to a fellow DirtBag 2 weeks ago when we road Golden Eagle. Tubeless blow out- tire came off the wheel. Now that I'm tubeless, I have to admit that I'm a bit concerned and thinking of going back to tubes.

Healing prayers, but far from the first time that I've heard of a Stan's front blowout causing major injury. It happened to a friend who had no damage to the tire, and is still using it after recovery. Of course, there is always the chance that the Stan's system was employed improperly.

I've been running tubeless for many years and have never had this happen. By the apperance of the tire above, even a tubed tire wouldn't have saved him. looks more of a tire failure then anything else.
