Super D today was good on my new bike.

Traded in the Banshee for a lighter frame and dropped almost 4#'s off of my bike.

Like the Sport XC course going all the way up the hill, even the hike-a-bike...what I don't like is most sport classes dump right into the middle of the beginners right at the top of the pavement. I gotta say, its not fair to the beginners to have a bunch of a-hole sport class riders (I'm one of them, even though I try not to be) who are faster around the singletrack portion of the course than the beginners trying to pass or expecting the beginners (who are racing for position in the top 1/2 of their class) to pull off or take the secondary line to allow someone behind to pass.

I think the expert/pros were far enough ahead so there wasn't an issue.

I'd suggest holding the beginners 10 minutes after the last sports take off...they'll still get to the singletrack ahead of the pro/experts second lap, but they won't have to put up with dozens of people trying to fly past on the portion of the course with very little room to pass.

I had a blast on the Super D today, and was pretty stoked to come in 4th in Expert behind three people I wasn't expecting to beat (Cody, Gabe Z, and Nick from Felt, in that order). Course was super fun, reminded me of a lot of the San Gabes trails I always ride. Random pics are up on the OTBMBC.Smugmug.com site. Thanks for all the cheering!

I missed watching the XC race, but got to watch some of the DH practice. There's one guy in a Trek jersey and red ano rims that was absolutely flying.

There's one climb that starts halfway past the leg of the DH course after it crosses the road that's marked for the XC course I think. I *tried* to ride up, but my cardio and leg strength was obviously insufficient. I was even pushing my bike at a snail's pace. Did some XC racers actually clear much of this? I rode the part of the XC loop that went down the other side of the big tank from where the DHers were and I was on the brakes a bit much... it was tougher than it looks in parts. I like that loose rocky final climb. Interesting XC course that looks a bit short. The DH course looks a little tame, considering other sections they could've included, which I tried to ride like a noob. LOL.

Funny watching some really young kids on bikes that would fit me, riding the 4X.

  8. Cleared it every lap! Ugh.....

    Gwin?

Aaron Gwin by any chance? I don't know if he had red rims. He was under the radar today in a black t-shirt and dickies shorts.

Had a great day at the XC races saturday, pulled a hat-trick with my third win in my class. Looking forward to seing Andy's pics, he picked some great locations along the back side of the course.

Was a white LS jersey with trek logo in black taking up the entire back. Well, maybe not a Trek logo, it probably had more stripes without the "shield" outline. There was another guy with red ano rims that was kind of fast. They looked like pros, seeing how they were sprinting every chance they got and seemed to control their air well.

    I'm guessing it's 40A, page 14 on Eric's DH A-F gallery. Maybe... http://www.photoreflect.com/store/Orderpage.aspx?pi=0EFA005Z000013&po=13&pc=118

We took my son out for his 2nd mtb race (xc) and he came home with a smile on his face and 3rd place medal. I thought it was a well run event and a great setting. We did see a couple STR jerseys out on the course. We will be back to Southridge.

I think you were riding up the descent from the top of the XC course....the XC (Sport and up) went left before it got to the pavement, and rejoined the beginner course near the top of the pavement climb. Almost all hiked a portion of that climb...it was rideable until the dirt got a little wet in the shade if you were riding low-profile tires, but other than that, I was able to ride it the 2nd lap and in pre-ride on a 29'er w/ a 24(fr)-34 gearing...wish I had the 24-38 though.
