Ride Report Spearfish Maiden Voyage @ The Weedpatch

I have obviously not spent enough time on STR as of late, because I have NO IDEA what is going on right now.

Carry on.

BTP got his first full suspension bike. (spearfish)

He took it to the weedpatch and was basically mckayla maroney about it. Didn't really like weedpatch and didn't have the suspension dialed in.

People chipped in with some helpful suspension tips

Mikie Watson is very passionate about MTBing (#4 on his list if I recall) and doesn't agree with BTPs environmental (political?) leanings (sierra club)

BTP employed a witty rejoinder

Mikie typed a couple paragraphs

People cheered and people bocked

That's petty much where we are now.

I sometimes wonder why I respond to PTB questions and comments. I truly like sharing my MTBing experience and trail knowledge with others but I just wonder when PTB is going to "get it" and figure this MTBing thing out...he seems to be the perpetual newbe. I sometimes wish I could just take him to the top of Mt Wilson and send him down the Merrills or Mt Wilson trail and just get his fears and caution exorcized. With that said I understand what Mike W was referring to.

This is fun. Kind of like one of those Mystery Theater dinners where you try to figure out who killed the butler. By using all the clues in this thread I was able to figure out who BTP is. I met him on one of his hikes. Oops. I mean on a mountain bike ride.

I'm not in the habit of quoting Rick Warren, but someone asked him why he was working on a humanitarian project with an organization that was pro choice and he said something like "If you only work with people who agree with you on everything, you would never work with anyone".

(Also: Dstepper, if you're going to refer to someone by their STR initials please don't get all dyslexic. Very confusing.)

Between this ^^^^^^ and SteveC's summary, we have the whole story. BtP is the perpetual work in progress that we all try to "help." His unique approach to mountain biking (fully rigid bikes, an apparent distaste for any technical riding, a dislike of Southern California and his endorsement and hopeful outlook for the Sierra Club) has us all scratching our heads. BtP has been a newbie since 2008. I see him as a hiker and outdoorsy guy who also likes to ride bikes. He definitely doesn't fit the mold of the typical STR rider/writer and that's probably why we all try so hard to "convert" him.

Ryan - I know you'll read this. Feel free to correct me where I'm wrong. See you at your school or mine.

It is a disabilty I was born with and I try my best but fall short often. Thanks for pointing that out.

As a perpetual newbie, I just wanted to read about the Spearfish. Perhaps a new thread "Us against Them" should be started in the pub.
This thread has definitely come off it's tracks.

I make a simple wisecrack, like many people do... I get called on it via PM...I publicly make a sincere apology...

My blood type is "B" Positive if anyone wants any?

Hey proraptor, is that body builder chick in pic #3 Mikie Watson's twin sister? When did she shave her goutee?

I feel like this may be my fault, I helped BTP set up the suspension on his bike. I set it up fairly stiff, since he is use to a fully rigid bike and rode it around the shop parking lot to see how it felt, now it seems like I might have let him down. How ever it felt pretty good to me.

Not at all, man. There are just people on STR that are all about drama. I talk to people at rides all the time who talk about "the old days" and how they don't post on STR because of how certain people are. You notice a lot less RR nowadays. You notice a lot less of the old faces for various reasons.

Anyhow, as I mentioned in the previous thread, I appreciate the help. You got me on the trail. It was just one ride and it was a lot different than my other bike. Some people gave useful feedback that will help me tweak things. I want to ride on some trails I am familiar with to get a true feel for the bike. It was a simple RR with some initial feedback about a new a bike. As is the new trend on STR others thread crapped and it derailed from there.
