Denmother...well...about racing DH...There are a few reasons why I haven't been racing DH on Sundays:
- Because of 4X practice and racing, I have little time to practice the DH course on Saturday. And after the 4X awards - just before it gets dark - I'm simply too tired to ride the DH course.
- On Sunday morning, I'm usually quite tired from the previous day's racing. Granted, I know a lot of you race XC and Super D the day before, but I guess I'm just not in good enough condition, or I'm just not motivated enough to break through the soreness to ride. I don't know if the sprinting involved in 4X wears me any differently than an XC race would, but maybe some day I'll find out.
- I haven't ridden my DH bike since the last Bootleg trip in about November. I have a hard time adapting to that bike when I haven't ridden it for a while. I need to ride it some time. It always takes me at least two days of riding it to become comfortable on it, which means I'd have to ride in on Saturday, but I couldn't really ride it before 4X. The SlopeStyle will be a lot easier for me to adapt to.
- I put a lot of pressure on myself to do well. Although I like the pressure in moderation, racing two days in a row every other week is more pressure than I care for. Just the same, I know what it takes to win, but I am not really interested in committing to what it takes. I want to keep riding fun.
- Finally, although my gf gets to ride the Fullerton Loop on weekday evenings (usually only Thursdays), weekends are her only chance to really enjoy riding. And with races having been every other weekend, she kind of gets hosed from riding. And if I want her to develop her riding skills so she can do more longer and more technical rides, she needs to be out riding more often.
