Yay, I finally got to see you race. I brought Jessica (a foster kid I mentor along yesterday). She had a blast watching everyone race. Before you came along she kept asking about my friend and what you were wearing so she could cheer you on as you passed. When you came by she was super excited to see a "racer" she actually met. Good job on the season.

Thanks to Willie to haning out with us on the rocks.

I got her on my bike for a bit but she was intimidated but all the gears and braking, she did say she's willing to work on her skills. Hopefully you'll see her on the trails soon!

It was great to see you too! Glad you and Jessica had a good time, it was nice to meet her! Hope she enjoys her first trail ride. Were you at the lower rock section? I heard my name somewhere. It's cool to hear your name called on the course - I usually can't tell who it is, but it's so nice to know you've got a friend out there rooting for you to do well!

    DH race report

Got in a few (4) practice runs after waiting for XC awards, XC overalls, and the raffle. I got up on the hill and had such a fun time on my first run...it felt so different from the HT 29er I had just been riding. I felt so happy to be on my bike! Practice went well and I just tried to flow the course and scope out any potential lines.

The day of the race was (of course) windy. Got in two practice runs with a couple re-dos on one section. I got done early enough to relax for about an hour before we loaded up for race runs.

I felt pretty relaxed and just focused on having a smooth run, laying off the brakes as much as possible, and working the turns. As I clipped in at the start, I held onto the pole. When I went to go, the wind pushed me left! I stalled for about a second! I had a hard time in turn 2 (the loose one) and then on another turn below. Overall, though, my run was clean :)

I ended up 4th for the day...only 0.2 seconds out of 3rd place and 2 seconds out of 2nd place. This is a much tighter gap for me than most of the other races, though I've been able to steadily close the gap on some of the other pro women since race 1. And...I finally made my goal of a sub-3 minute run!! I had completely forgotten about it until I looked at the results...I ran a 2:58.

I finished 4th overall for the series, too. Here are some pix...no action shots...just some podiums and what I like to call "race life"...

Personally, I like the decent sized digital photos more than an actual picture.

Charge a few bucks (I'd like to say $2.50, but that is as a consumer, not as a photographer) for digital images. You may sell more than you'd think.

Often they are like $5 each and that's a bit much for a digital pic sometimes.

But, all depends on quality and everything else. So far I've only bought one pic this entire season (my avatar) from Eric F. I may get one from the XC race also that I liked from this past race.

I think it is also tough for you guys when other people are out taking pics and post them up. Why buy when you can just d/l your buddy's photo?

I still like to support you guys cause the professional level pics are definitely awesome.

So, either way, thanks for the hard work :)

Looks like #5 was a blast. Great photos.
I think of all the pics posted this one is the best because it looks as though he is blasting out of the ground like in the beginning of "Crusty: Demons of Dirt"

I agree the pros have great pictures and I always give out their links in my emails and posts after every race. Handed out little fliers for Ricky's. Even though myself and others shoot amateur pics for fun and for friends who can't/won't buy photos I very much respect and support the pros out there so I hope there's never any issues with posting mine. Not interested in selling but almost have them in albums took a long time.

    Ditto.
I tend to take photos in angles or sections I wish photogs would stake out for "action shots" (my wife is usually on her own to pick her spot and she sometimes surprise the sh*t out of me when she heckles me on my race runs).

I have seen many pay-for-photo sites with pics of racers just sitting down or lollying around or just in lame riding positons on their race runs. It's usually because they were taken from a bad convenient spot.

Some photogs understand which section would best capture "that fleeting moment" of your race run from a riders perspective (some of them are/were riders themselves at some capacity). The trend has gotten better though and the pro photogs have stepped up some.

In any event, from now on, donate .75 cents to my wife (heatherz) when you see her on the course. This photo taking thingie is hard, annoying but rewarding work.

I'll have the rest of the photos from Sun posted on Buttmonkey tonight.

    Oz

    Ps:
If you happened to appear on our pic post and you're posted pic was of a decent size one, you donate $1.50. Heatherz does not carry any change so pay the exact amount.

CONGRATS to all that raced!! And a BIG THANKS to all the photogs out there dealing with the wind! Esp. the ones that stayed for the "Z" class riders:beer:
