Armondo (EpicMtnBiker) and I will be riding Southridge (Fontana) on Saturday. As I'm still basically beginner to intermediate level, this will be an easy ride. I'm good usually for about 10 miles or so, maybe 8 if the terrain is rough. Armondo will be able to describe the ride a little easier, but since I've never posted a ride before I thought I'd do it. :bang: So, if you're looking for a warm up for a tough Sunday ride, or you are a big p****y like me, you should ride with us.

Who: All STR members: Beginners to advanced

What: First: 8 mile XC loop. (my 10 y/o godson races this course) Then: some exploratory riding and/or opportunity to practice some technical stuff for the beginners on the various DH routes in Southridge. I'll be available to help any beginners out on anything you may have questions on.

**** This ride is mainly for the beginners so that we can keep a slow pace and be able to help them out with any and all questions they may have in regards to any technical type of riding or MTB related issues.

When: Saturday, April 15th, 2006 @ 8 am

Where: Southridge, Fontana; Please see map below
Geoladders link: http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=431

**** Sway (P.M. me) stated he wants to do the Midnight Ridazz on Friday with us which a few guys and myself will do, he can join us for that, and we can also hit some dirt the next morning. Gurp13 will join us for this Saturday ride as well.

**** If any advanced or intermediate riders would like to join us that would be great.

**** The forecast calls for rain all week long, Southridge holds up very well in the rain (i rode in the rain/drizzle not too long ago and it was great)!!!!

Hey Glenn, you beat me to it!! :p

i think i will join in on this ride before the tom the bomb epic...i've been trying to get a second bladder in my camel back and need to do a smaller ride with the setup to get used to it before the tom the bomb epic

i cant be drinking gatorade when imtrying to drink water, that would just throw off my timing!

Sounds like a fun ride. I've never riden the xc course, just raced on the dh. Since my dh bike isn't built yet, I'll join you guys on Sat. Are you guys meeting at the park or the cul-de-sac leading up to the water tower?

With the rain on Friday, the terrain is going to be so great at Southridge on Saturday!!

southridge is one of the best places to ride during or after it rains. this reminds me, we need to hit up Sycamore Canyon Park in Riverside soon!!

funny

thats funny i think the same thing, about sicamore everytime it rains. the boy wanted to go there this weekend but i told him southridge for practice. gootta keep him sharp for the big one next month. but maybe sun. after TACO saturday\\:D/. just thinking .

Ride Report

This ride was a really nice slow and easy fun type of thing!!

Gurp13 (wearing red) & BigFrank (wearing blue) joined me on this one this morning.

The weather was nice & cool, plus the terrain held up extremely well after the rain. we did the whole 8 mile XC race course loop stopping along the way to go over different techniques in going over some of the technical aspects of the course. we took our time riding, made necessary adjustments and overall we had a great time out there!!

Below are some pix of the guys along the XC course. i do have to mention that Southridge looked great!!! the hills were green and the wild mustard was all over the place!! and the track was excellent!!

Thanks for posting the pics, Armondo! My wife is glad to see that I'm actually riding and not just going to strip bars on Saturday mornings.

The ride was nice. I think Armondo tries to challenge himself when riding with us by talking while we're climbing. And descending. Dude, I'm trying to concentrate!!! Can't you see I'm a noob?! Unfortunately, I was always last coming down the technical stuff and Armondo and Frank would stop to watch and "cheer" me on. Man, I get so nervous when people watch! That's why I make my wife turn the light out.

On the real, though, it was a fun ride. We had a great time. I only fell three times. Armondo, thanks again for flipping over my stem! It really seemed to make a huge difference. (Now, all I need are some real bar ends.) I would totally ride Southridge again, hopefully this time we can go without stopping as much. For other noobs, there are some very technical sections. Some of the singletrack is very rocky and rutted. I can usually deal with rocks, but ruts seriously f*** me up! My tires love to bite on the sides and this almost always means I go some direction I didn't really want to.

But, I bet that can be solved with momemtum, right Armondo? :)

Great ride! When do we do Strawberry Peak?

It was great meeting and riding with you guys Armando and Glen. I've riden @ Southridge dozens of times on the DH section and never knew all that fun ST existed on the back side.

Thanks Armando for showing us the xc course and posting the pics!
