Ride Report Southridge #3 Race Report

My first time out to Fontuckana. Probably bumped in to a bunch of you out there, including this gal who was pedaling hard up hill incognito, and still had plenty enough breathe while racing to say "Hi Randy!" while smoking on the XC course. Really caught me off guard.

Saw PostHole with some gorgeous racing creature hanging around him for racing inspiration.

Special Thanks to those of you that sold off some of your goods to me for my Work In Progress 29er build. You know who you are, just want you to know it's appreciated by me. I'll be rockin on some sweet Hadley's in the future. :bang:

great photos everyone. i cruised out to hang out with neil, nam, traci, jay-rod and andy. the weather was funky but it was great to be under the cover of the INTENSE tent. i also saw justin and allison and chatted with them for a few. congrats to allison for mopping up the competition in her race! oh yeah, maddie also raced in the kids race and was off to a great start and lead for most of the race until the last hill got the best of her. by the way, she was beating two boys! julia, roger and nancy all looked good on the 4x track as well.

sorry traci i didnt make it out today, hope you did well!!!

I had a bunch of great practice runs. My goal was to tone my race run down a little and keep it smooth. DID NOT HAPPEN #-o I pinned it more than I could control and went down 3 times :?:, one being at the bottom of the waterfall and I went off to the right. I just gave up after that I was soooooo out of it.
Anyways I plan on riding a lot and training hard for the next race :bang:
Hope everyone had a time!!

Dang that track was just muuudddy haha. I did well though got first in beginner so im happy ...im steadily getting faster...first race 13th...second race 4th...and now 1st woo wooo haha hope everyone had a good time!

Congrats Desert man. This was supposed to be my first race weekend and once again, I´m snowed in up here in Idyllwild. Maybe next time............................

i took some photos of the pro/expert coming down that waterfall drop in, so i might have your pic if you were in that group...

you have a better chance of getting your picture taken if you fly off the trail and take out a photographer.
the before shot, everything going ok

the guy kind of tackled Sharky and put her into that rock to her left, and he wasn't too well off either. There was all sorts of things going wrong at the end of that section with that left turn

rumor has it, Sharky got his number

Thanks man...and that blows =/ well next race will hopefully have better weather which would make for a more fun first race weekend haha

it was a good race. there were several times today when I was wondering to myself "what the heck am I doing out here?", but still, had a good time.

it didn't seem as muddy to me as other people were making it out to be, but that could be due to the giant nokian freeride tire I was running. that thing sticks in ANYTHING. by race time, there were quite a few annoying braking bumps heading into the turns up top, but nothing unmanageable. the turns still held up fairly well.

my race run? came together fairly cleanly, but I wasn't riding fast at all. I was pretty much just cruising for most of it, since I was wet, cold, and generally miserable with the weather, that I really didn't need a face full of mud to end my day. ended up with 6th place in my class, and a time of 3:05 ish.

congrats to all the winners, good luck next time to the not winners, and heal up those of you that fell victim to sharky's voodoo ;)

Sorry to my friends taken out in my presence today ;) there were many I should post just voodoo crashes!! It's not even a joke anymore I'm sooo jinxed!!#-o

That guy Brett was great making sure I was ok even handed me his paper plate # as a momento...nothing worse here than we get from everyday crashes bruised back and bloody elbow. Great job everyone that dip into that rock caused lots of carnage and a flat. Shots looked good David/Andy not easy in the rain.
Again CONGRATULATIONS to everyone out there.

Back to race pics enough Sharky =} dohhhhhhhhhhh

Edit: anyone notice Waylon Smith wore his XC helmet?
Guess I never really paid notice to that before...

It was Muddy in the morning, and poured up until race time, but the course was in good, rutted conditions when race runs came. i had a pretty good run on the top portion, didnt push it, just cruised down, trying not to make mistakes, then as soon as i hit the road, my legs stopped working. i tried to stand up and hammer a few times, but i found myself stuck in the seat.
i managed 3:03 and a 4th place finish.
the guy that won my class finished with 2:50
i guess i should start working on my endurance. :-k
also, sharky showed me her carnage before my race run, her elbow was all bloooody!! :bang: thats crazy, hope your back feels better and you didnt/dont need stitches in your elbow.
Todd also took a nasty digger in his race run, and it looks like he took a cheese grater to his knee.
Healing Vibes to the people that crashed, or got taken out, and see everyone at round 4, Hopefully in a little bit better shape than i was this race.

Great day out there today. Rained during practice but then pretty much quit for the race.
