(R.I.P.) Over the hill
RR: South Fork, San Bernardino Mts.
As part of our ride today, we ended on the SART, but this RR is not about that trail…much has been reported on that trail in the past.
This was a Homer ride, 3 lovely Turners and a lowly puke green rigid steel 29-inch wheeled single speed. Riders were Scott, Lynn, Jose and myself. I have done many rides with Scott this year and this one is up there on the fun and scenic scale. When I ride with Scott I do not bring a map, he leads, I follow and he does not disappoint. Therefore I cannot tell you the name of the trail, just that we started in the Jenks Lake area of the San Bernardino Mountains (Osceola Pine Demo Forest, Alpine Meadows) and came down the South Fork Watershed coming out at the cabins at South Fork Camp Ground.
New dirt: for Jose and I…some new dirt for Scott and Lynn. We found a nice piece of singletrack; it followed a nice little stream with lots water in it...got to the Wilderness Boundary so we turned around. Thanks Jose, we may not have taken that section of trail without your encouragement.
After our most scenic out-n-back, we dropped down South Fork Creek. It is excellent with; rocks, roots, drops, rolls, blind corners, in a beautiful mature forest. To add to the experience we had the sound of falling water all the way down.
Here are a couple of pictures. Hope you all are enjoyin' your weekend.
