I want to get another Snow ride up to the peak.....or as far as rideable. Waiting for the first weekend of snowfall to hit Santiago Peak. Its getting cold and hopefully wet soon. The first time I did this was a few years ago with a STR group I think we had 15 heads or so. I would like to share this fun ride with others. The scheduled rout would be up maple springs to 4 corners, up Majeska all the way up to the peak. Stay tuned for the date's to be posted.

Maple Springs is closed. You'll have to go up Harding or HJ.

I've done a few snow rides over the last handful of years, usually solo.
Would be more fun in a group.
Haven't done Harding; so that would be new, too.
Haven't made the peak in snow, usually 4 Corners was plenty of work.

Are studded tires a good idea, or is that an ice-only thing?

Studded tires are always a good thing. You can ride fresh snow easily but when the snow melts at night then refreezes oversight ice can be hiding under the snow.

I have wondered how fat tires do on ice.

On Saturday we "rode" up Holy Jim to the top of upper HJ. Snow on Main Divide was drifted up to 4 feet high in the middle of the road in spots. I'd guess the dump at 18" at our high point. Upper HJ was booted out but no tire tracks; super fun slopping down and trying to clean everything. It's melting fast, so go get it. No special gear needed, just a pair of gaiters and low tire pressure. The roads are probably more dangerous than the trails; they definitely aren't as fun.

Bummer, giger. They usually heal clean and fast (had 3), so take heart. Cross train yourself up to the peak anyway? Footing will be NTB.
