Doing VQ this year, did CC last year on a SC superlight, and traverse on a yeti arc (cant decide what works for me I guess :). Gonna push myself further than I ever have before doing the VQ and I my nerves are pumping, mostly with anticipation and excitement.

Good luck to all, Ill see you out there, hopefully the weather is as good as theyre predicting right now!

I'll be racing for my club Celo Pacific, and I got a new rig this year:

Very nice looking bike. You should post a ride report after and let us know how the XX gearing worked out for you.

She's been with me through 2 of the last 3 VQ's. Looks like everything is ready but the engine.

totally! I have been liking it so far. I originally had the 42/29 on the front and a couple weeks ago I switched to the 39/26. Im not looking to set any land/speed records, and most of my racing this year is endurance stuff, so I feel its the right choice for me as of right now.

Did CC last year on a Zion-framed SS, upgraded my frame to this. Gonna try VQ on it. Any other SS-ing ladies out there?

What bikes did you all ride in the RACE (vision quest - counting coup) lets hear it

Curious - what bike, bike weight, tires used. Finally how many miles a week or hours a week did you train on average, how many days before the race was your last hard ride - we all love the details

Curious if most rode HT vs FS, anyone riding a heavy tank because thats all you had

Race looks like fun even though i never race, ill have to try it next year if I can get a spot

    thanks

Santa Cruz Highball Singlespeed.....so HT.....24 lbs

    Gearing: 32 x 22

    Tires: Ardent Race Exo 29 x 2.25 F / Ikon Exo 29 2.2 R

    Miles/Time per Week: Avg. 140-150 miles / 14-18 hrs / 5 days a week

Did Palm Canyon on the SS the Saturday prior to VQ and the equivalent CC on the 22nd, then 2 more easy 20 milers on Sun & Mon....didn't ride Tues-Fri mostly due to conflicts in schedule/packet pickup...etc. Which was fine, because these days I have a hard time with moderation.

Rode my one and only real mountain bike, my lovely ASR5c. 5" travel, 28 lbs with dropper post and Flows, maybe a little heavy compared to all the superlight carbon XC bikes I saw but not a tank by any means. Didn't change the setup at all from how I normally ride it, and was glad I didn't because going down Motorway and Holy Jim was a blast. Biggest bike I saw was a beefy Blur LTC.

I broke my hand riding in early December so training started for me mid January. Tried to get 7,000' to 10,000' vertical per week climbing in with my biggest ride being 7'000. I'm in the midst of writing my thesis and applying for a grants and had some big upcoming deadlines so couldn't really get to ride much or sleep the two weeks before the CC. I think this saved me though, because my mindset going in switched from trying to set certain segment times to was just finishing and having a good time. It's just a big, fun ride more than a race and I had a blast. Would love to try VQ next year.

Participated in my first Counting Coup with my Giant XTC Advanced 27.5 - 1 hardtail. It weighs in around 22 lbs. Love this bike, it is a rocket! I trained about 6-8 hours/~80 miles per week on average. I took it easy the week before the race to have fresh legs. Just a couple rides with light intensity. I was very pleased with a sub 6 hour race for my first CC. I had such a fun time, I will be back next year!

Tallboy C, running mostly XTR and a few carbon bits. I had Race king on the back and a RaRa up front. Not sure of the weight, but around 25 lbs. I did pass a few guys on the descents who said they wished they had there FS bikes.

Santa Cruz Nomad c. 30.07 lbs. I climbed slower than many, but had too much fun on the downhills. I did get my VQ feather...even though, admittedly, by that time the top finishers were already at home relaxing.

A finisher is a finisher.....doesn't matter where you were in that order.
