Shoe recommendation?

Can anyone recommend a good MTB'ing shoe for a guy who uses platforms? I know 661 makes a few and I've heard good things about Five-Ten's shoes, but am hoping to hear from someone that has personal experience with them.

Thanks for any advice or info.:)
 
I've had a couple pairs of the 661's. They might work for some, but not for me. To restrictive. But then again, I haven't found a pair yet that I really loved.
 
I have the Five Tens and love em. They literally feel like someone put tacky glue on the bottom of your shoe with my 5150 pedals. The circle tread pattern really allows the spikes in the pedals to sink into the shoe and give you a cliped kinda feel. I rode the other day without them and it felt like I was slipping off the bike every turn.
 
I run lotek shoes. They are bmx shoes so the sole is stiffer than other skate style shoes that most people use. I've never slipped a pedal w/them yet(knock on wood). I also heard that the five tens are awesome but are pretty bulky and have questionable looks(if that is important to you).

yeah pacman, definitely get the Five Ten Impacts. The rubber is sweet. I used to run em when i had my bullit....and may get another pair now that i am getting a real bike again. chicks totally dig em too. I like the mid version pictured below. Retail is probably about $95 but you should be able to fine em cheaper. Pricepoint sells the mid for $85 and low for $75.

I guess I"m outta touch. I still rock Vans. You can still find some models that have the diamond tread from the ball of your foot to a little before the heel. I never had problems with them back in the day running cages, but I have to admit my worn out pair relegated strictly to riding duty have felt a little squirely on my $hity snafu platforms. I'll probably toss my old pair, promote my "clean pair" to riding duty and grab a new pair for kicking around town when mommy says I have to wear nice shoes.

Then again, I'm also thinking about switching back to cages as well as I'm just not diggin the platforms.

Old Skool vans with the off the wall sole. Any other sole that vans has is not as good.

The best shoe I ever had were those AXO high tops but I think they quit making them.

I am ready for a new pair so I might have to try those Impacts. But the right Vans have always worked well for me.

I didn't notice last time I saw ya on the bike, but do you roll the Spicoli models? :D

Right now I have some DVS shoes and they are not real good for flats. Great for a skate but not so good for the bike.

But now that you bring it up I think some black / white checkered off the walls are a must have for me. Man will that be a flash back. I used to LIVE in those as a teen. :bang:
 
I bought a pair of 510 Impacts off e-bay back when I used to run flat pedals. They are very sticky on the soles, and very comfortable also. I'd highly recommend them.

FYI - The owner of Garage Works (suspension guys and more) is the 5-10 distributor for the So Cal/West Coast area. Steve is at Interbike this week for 5-10.
