Shimano Dual Control question

Hi all,
Does anyone here have any experience with Shimano Dula Control levers?? I was thinking about getting some (found a good deal on brand new XT's).

ANy opinions, positive or negative will be greatly appreciated!!

A dude at a lbs to me.....If you break the shifter/brake lever you'll have a brake lever and shifter to replace. Sorry to sound like a pessimist but that made sense to me. My brother has some(stock on his bike)....they just don't feel right.

i have LX dual. my personal opinion, i dont like it. why, becoz i like to put only my middle finger on the brake lever, and its hard to shift the gear (by pushing down the lever) with one finger, so i have to move my index finger up to the lever to shift. oh, and my other bike has the regular older shifter, and u know the new shimano shift the opposite direction, so i will have a hard time shifting gears when i change my bike. and last but not least, like what jruiz said, u have to change the whole system if u break only one.

but dual shifter does look COOL.

I don't have them, but I have ridden them. I used them for about a month or so. I personally didn't like them. Everyone told me that I just needed to get used to them. I think it got to the point where I decided I didn't want to get used to it. I personally like the Sram x.9 triggers.

There is a reason that they are a really great deal. Most peopel don't like them.

First you have to run Shimano disc brakes. If you are not a fan of shimano brakes....this is a problem. Second, the lever has a tendancy to move up and down a bit when you are using the brakes.

More of the bike bike co.s have gone away from Shimano for '07. More and more bikes are coming equiped with SRAM. That tells me alot.

My initial reaction was that I did not like them, and got told that I needed to get used to them. So I got used to them, and actually got to where I didn't mind them. They're alright, not what I prefer, and the cables have to be replaced often.

There are 2 different configurations to the dual control shifters.

i like it when the it goes lower gears when you press down on the right lever as opposed to going to a higher gear. i've ridden both configurations. i believe specialized bikes are the only ones that have the configuration i like (that's what i've heard). i rode a Cannondale with the opposite dual control option.

BTW, i have Shimano XT dual control shifters, and haven't had any issues with them, and are responsive enough for my needs.

I have the XT Dual contral shifters on my specialized. I had a pretty gnarly crash were the shifters and brake lever got tangled in gravel and they're scratched, but thats it. I'd have to say though that I feel more omfortable with triggers, if you're going down hills and hit the brakes if your not paying attention you can downshift and that sucks.
