I have the same problem! Being color blind doesn't help either!

    You are where you is
we did it in swimming to give you an edge- not a physical one but a mental one- it makes you feel faster in the water and when we shaved we were in peak condition for the season, so you seem to go faster. and, yes, it works- I've been a competitive swimmer for 80% of my life (from 6 to 30) and when i had hair to shave in club swimming, high school and college, it definitely helped with the mental game.

another advantage is that it cleans your skin- shaving can get rid of the top most layers that are likely the more dead skin.

i don't think that shaving saves that much in wind resistance on riding- it sure as hell doesn't save you much in the pool where there is much more drag than in the air.

After cleaning out one of Gabe's wounds I can see why it would benefit you guys to shave. His wound would have been much worse had he been super hairy. I know, TMI that I clean out his wounds but it shed a new light to the subject for me.

i also love my Nair, i know not the same but i think it does a really good job when i'm in a hurry

i love the feel of swimming after a fresh shave, mentally you feel so fast. i always joke i know how a dolphin feels because your so slick in the water.

I shaved my legs 1X in high school for swimming finals. I'll never forget how fast my legs glided through the water.

....then a few days later it felt like needles poking my leg every time I sat down.

....and the for the next few months the hair grew back dark black and I had to wear jeans during summer.

I'd imagine that over the course of an endurance bike race that shaved legs would cut down on wind resistance and save a slight amount of time.

Pro roadie and XC bikers also shave because they get leg massages before and after races and hair impedes a proper leg massage (or at least it makes it harder to relax during a massage with all the hair pulling). Many of the pro teams have massage people as part of the team entourage. The grip strip on bike shorts also pulls the hair on the upper thigh as you pedal.

Swimmers, body builders, water polo, wrestlers and other athletes shave as well. I don't think it has anything to do with being less than manly.

I shaved my legs years ago (nothing like peer pressure from other riders). Kind of an odd sensation wearing jeans and not having the usual friction on the inside of the pant legs, but the stubble after the next few days was irritating. So it was either constantly shave or bear down and let it grow out again. Wasn't worth the trouble especially since I didn't crash or get massages at the time.

But Brandon did you tell your Dad?

I've got no problem with people who do it and I don't consider it a sexual thing, cliquish maybe but not anything else.

I have a lot of roadie friends and most do shave, I personally don't see enough benefit in it.
