Ride Report Sequoia National Forest

My pics

Here are the pics off of my camera. We got lost right at first but then found a better trailhead. This was some meadow right after the start.

Very lush in there.

Dean, I like that log ride pic. I am going to have to get up there and build a good entrance and exit for that thing. It is perfectly placed across that creek. I will give you guys some reports if I get a chance to do some work.

Wow! Ok guys after seeing those last pix sold me for sure...can I be on the short list to go next time... If I promise to do the cooking. hehe :?:

CC is in!

Hey Jeff or anyone, what is the time of year this is usually opened to ride?

That is a tough question. The road up to Quaking Aspen will open by early May. The road from my side usually opens mid May. There is generally a good amount of deadfall on all the trails after the snow starts melting. The Forest Circus doesn't do jack for trail work there in the Spring. Almost all of the trail work is done by a group of riders that live in the area. During Memorial Day weekend I went up and ran my saw with that bunch. They do a few trail work days every year on that weekend. I would not plan a trip before then.

If you want to go any higher than Quaking Aspen you need to wait a little longer. I did Bear Creek in mid June and there was still quite a bit of snow. Late June was better. The ride we did Sunday afternoon will not clear until mid June or so. Of course if there is a big snow year all of those dates could be pushed back 2 weeks or more.

Is that clear as mud? You are probably sorry you asked.

Yeah, you're right Matt. I've got the next two weeks planned but might go up after that.I'll be going for 3 days mininum though. To much good stuff up there to try to do all in a day or two.

It looks really nice up there, judging by the RRs. I'd like to attend too, if possible... please let me know when it will happen. How long of a drive is it?

Depending on traffic; it's about 4.5-5 hours. Could probably be faster if you left very early or very late. You probably don't want to show up at night though - that's what Gabe and Mike did, and Gabe wound up sleeping on top of his tent b/c it was too dark to set it up.

Pffft, that what LED headlamps are for... so you can find and open up a beer while setting up camp.

why I like my Element. Back seats out and an air mattress. No tent required!

The whole camp was asleep. They didn't want to disturb everyone by setting up camp so Mike sleep in his car and Gabe cowboyed it.
