UT has a fire blog going w/ regular updates: http://fireblog.signonsandiego.com/

For those of us that live on the coast, there is cause for concern. Friends/co-workers in La Costa evacuated a while ago.

Quoted from UT:

I think it will go to the ocean before it stops,” Metcalf said, which means the fire would pass through Rancho Santa Fe, Solana Beach and Encinitas.

Metcalf also is concerned that the Witch fire will take the same path as the Cedar fire, south through Wildcat Canyon, Barona, Lakeside and Santee.

The Harris fire continues to move “dramatically to the west and cause a great deal of destruction,” Metcalf said.

He expects the fire to spread to the ocean through the communities of Otay Lakes and Chula Vista.

The Coronado Hills fire in San Marcos, like the Harris and Witch fires, is zero percent contained, Metcalf said. He fears it could burn west through Carlsbad.

Just posted on the district website:

Fire Update

Because of air quality concerns, parents/guardians who wish to do so may pick up their students from school. They must check in at the front office and present identification.
School buses will maintain regular schedules.
On Tuesday, all schools in San Diego County, including the Sweetwater Union High School District, will be closed. Continue to check here to determine if schools will be open on Wednesday.

South County fire update

All,

Just got back from going to get my pop-up trailer (The White Trash Palace) from storage out towards Jamul.

It was at the 10000 Trails RV Park out on Otay Lakes Rd. The main fire (Harris fire) was roughly 2 miles SE of Jamul but could be seen easily from town. As I drove down Otay Lakes Road towards the Eastlake area, I noticed a hillside above me on fire also. This was a new fire in the area about 3 miles from the Harris fire.

This new fire was right across the street from the RV storage gravel lot. It took me about 3 minutes to uncover, hook up, and bug out. (New Best time for a bug out!) And in that time, the fire had burned down The 150 foot hillside and jumped the road and continued on to the NW towards Jamul. The speed that it was moving was very very scary.

Good luck to all those affected by this stuff. Prayers are with you.

Kevin

Is anyone getting these "reverse 911 calls"? I wonder if they call cell phones?

Reverse 9-1-1 only works on wire line service. No cell or VoIP service will get the call so if you have a cell, Vonage or Cox@Home your might not get the call.

Sorry to hear about all the folks having to leave home. We left and I'm at Spec-Ed's place for now. Doug called about 30 min ago and is leaving Fallbrook and heading to San Jacinto. He didn't get the reverse 9-1-1 call, but he wanted to get his family out ahead of the fire.

Mark, if the fire takes the bike, let me know. Can you say "fire victim discount"?

I had room for the dog or the bike... I took the dog since I have spent more money on getting her a hip replacement then I did on my new bike.

Hope everyone continues to be okay... nothing new here, but sounds like it continues to get worse down south and up north in OC.

Listening to live streaming from 10news right now. Saw some LA stuff (including Irvine) at BJ's at lunch. Crazy...

San Ysidro now has a fire off 805 East Side & 905 Southside.

been on the scanner/ radio for most of the day... most air operations have been stopped if they have begun, especially to arrowhead/SB mtn fires. pilots are saying its just too hard to see. looks like SD county is the worse. be safe guys! its pretty clear up here in yucaipa, for now... heard this on an air to ground earlier, something like "It's now Al Gore or Al Qaida causing it. And, I don't like either one", looks like its going to get alot worse before it gets better. super dry, super low resources, and everyone is getting tired. again, be safe.

Fallbrook is just starting to get evacuated... glad that Doug got out earlier.. 15 is closed from S79 down to 56 also..

I just got home to San Jacinto with the family--thanks to all for the concern.

I work afternoons at work on Mondays and they still wanted me to come in even though the courthouse is closed (stupid) and I told them I couldn't. Around 11:30 AM I got a feeling in my gut to get out of Fallbrook while the getting was good. The smoke from the fire east of I-15 was looking worse by the minute so we bailed.

The 15 was already closed (didn't know it was, News channels never said). I called my parents and told them to get out now. They said OK. By the time they got to I-15 20 minutes later the fire had jumped I-15 and they were starting some mandatory evacs in South Fallbrook.

I had been in contact with Mark/Sladnas and Tom/NappyT all morning trying to keep tabs on everyone.

Like has been said before--All of Hodges-north and south, all of eastern Hodges--Mule Hill/San Pasqual trail is gone. Elfin is probably doomed as well. La Costa is in trouble. Sycamore Canyon and Ted Williams in Poway could go too, but Sycamore Canyon would probably go first.

Mark--if indeed your apartment went, I'll be praying for you and Jen. My house burned to the ground in 2002 and I lost everything, so I've been there and you know I'm here if you need ANYTHING!! My Trek HT is yours if you need it/want it. The frame ain't much but it has a SICK build.;)

Keep us posted on the OC/LA stuff too.

Doug - glad you guys are doing well! Lots of highway closures everywhere... 79 up to Hemet from Temcula is closed.. 15 is closed from the scales basically down to 56.

Scripps Ranch being evacuated.. Solana Beach is still on hold.

I'm listening to SD news, not LA, so no idea what is going on in OC.
