Saturday's "less ambitious" ride...

Power to the peeps that are doing it, but we don't all have the motivation to do that 35 miler on Sat...

So what to do instead?
A few options (assuming they are open):

A) El moro (I vote we park up at the end of Ridge Park b/c it's FREE)
B) ol'reliable Whiting/STT/Luge
C) Santiago Oaks

If they are not open, any non-35 milers in the Santa Ana's would probably work for me.

How about a starting time of 08:30?...not wicked early, but early enough...

Saturday, 08 April - 08:00 roll out

Whiting/STT/Luge - if peeps are feeling frisky we can extend our time on STT or in Whiting...or not, that's the beauty of "the less ambitious" ride! :clap:Also, lots of options to "bailout" if you don't have time for the full ride or just aren't feeling it.

Meet in parking lot just north of Washington Mutual. Washington Mutual is located in Ralph's shopping center next to Blockbuster Video. Arby's is in the vicinity too.

Whiting/STT/Luge is a favorite of mine too. I want to see some pix of you bubbs hitting the gap jump at the top of the Luge, NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
 
The oc parks website states Whiting is closed as of 4/4......so somebody may want to check and make sure it will be open.

Indeed, whiting appears to be closed as of 3 pm...working on a plan b...

Where: EL MORO (Ridge Park entrance - off the 73 and Newport Coast - FREE parking!\\:D/)
when: 8am

The best things in life take a little work to achieve. You should venture out to the ANF sometime soon for some real MOUNTAIN bike rather than those hills in OC you guys ride. :p

That should get a good flame war going on a Friday.

Seriously though, not trying to bust your balls just ready to get out of the office and get a drink. All in good fun. Just ask the guys at the Path. I crashed more on one ride with them at Aliso than in one year riding in the San Gs.

Have fun this weekend at El Moro.

Yeah, can you imagine Mustard after all this rain? I thought the less ambitious ride was Indian Truck Trail to Coldwater.

Even if Whiting is still open, I bet its still muddy. The first trail with the stream crossing must be wet.

I still vote for El Moro. Aliso was very dry today so El Moro must be the same.
 
I had a feeling that would happen since I saw the status of Laguna Coast change while I was on the web...

Oh well, I think the other cats are right, mustard is probably a mud-fest...and el moro is still new to lots of peeps, so it should be good. Also, it has plenty of options depending on how we feel...not to mention the momentum has shifted at this point...

Just remember folks, the RIDGE PARK entrance at 8 AM!

And MTBmaven- don't sweat it man! I love the santa ana's, but I agree that those other mountains seem pretty sweet. Hey, with a name like "ECOLOGYdork" I can see the positives of nearly any habitat or critter!

RIDE REPORT:
'twas a solid ride today!
banannaset (aldo), ShinKen (Jose), RSMLA (lucas), the kippie-nator, and I. It took me a few miles to work the kinks from last night's festivities out of the system...We did "the usual" El Moro route except we started up top at ridge park. Aldo blazed early due to other plans. We added on a little extra credit into Laguna with a run down (then up) Bommer/Old Emerald...good call matt!:clap: Trails were a little more wet and sticky than aliso was on friday, but not too bad. About 16 miles on the 'puter. Good grub at Gallo's deli in newport coast afterwards. It was a beautiful california spring morning! We missed you other guys!

i ended up doing the whiting/stt/luge route today... mustard actually wasn't bad at all and the first part of the trail wasn't too bad. stt and the luge was perfect!!! hopefully the guy that was helicoptered out of stt will be ok, found out he crashed and broke his wrist, arm and injured an eye. Now the live oak singletrack back at whiting wasn't too bad, but man those creek crossings were a muddy mess ](*,)

since this was my first ride in 3 weeks and my first time doing this loop, i am completely exhausted. i didn't get to eat lunch and was cramping up on the ride back from the luge
