San Juan Trail - labor day weekend

Monday would be good for me.
It would be the first time on that trail, but really looking forward to it.
time? place to meet? details about ride would be helpful.

San Juan

I would prefer to climb but am open to shuttle if that's what everyone else wants to do.

Why don't we meet at the trailhead at 8:00 am if that works for everyone.

I haven't ridden with anyone here either.
I'm up for a climb and 8:00 am is fine with me.
need directions to the trailhead though.
how many of us are there?

Hmmm....a shuttle would be a cool way to test out my AS-X. I've always wanted to shuttle San Juan :-k

San Juan

I did not start this thread and don't want to take it over by making any decisions for anyone, but there does not seem to be any consensus here. I will be at the trailhead at 8:00 am and wait until 8:15. If a group shows up with interest to shuttle, I will go along with that otherwise will climb. I will be in a black Ford F150

Everyone is welcome to ride. If you have not ridden this trail before, it is not super technical but does involve sustained climbing to get to cocktail rocks. I've never gone beyond cocktail rocks so I would love for someone that knows the routes to show up.

For directions to the trailhead, take Ortega Hwy 74 east from I-5 about 12 miles. Look for a sign for the Lazy W ranch and turn left. About 3/4 mile you will come to the shaded parking area/trailhead. You will need an Adventure Pass to park here. I think they may sell 1 day passes here in a vending machine but am not sure about that.

I hope to see everyone there.

I doubt I'll make this ride. My legs are pretty fried from todays 17 miler of Maple Springs to the Motorway. I MIGHT be down to shuttle though. As far as routes from Cocktail Rock, the last time Rob and I were there, it was heavy bushwhacking and not much fun once past the rest stop. We went up the Old San Juan trail (the rutted climb) and turned around not too far after we were done bushwhacking. I havent been on the New San Juan trail in a while which can be accessed at the lower end of Cocktail Rock.

I might be down for an Aliso quickie tomorrow though. I really wanna check out 5 Oaks!
