What saddles do you guys prefer? I used to always prefer a gel type seat because if you gotta spend alot of time on a bike, why not keep your arse comfy! The saddle that came with my FSR is crap and hard as a rock. Needs replacement asap!

Check out this webpage:

Lots of good information there. I used to think that a gel saddle was the way to go, too. I also thought my ass hurt a lot when I first started riding. Now, my saddle is very comfortable as I've acclimated myself. I have a Specialized Body Geometry Rival 140 saddle that came stock with my Stumpjumper. You might try breaking your saddle (and your ass) in with a week or two of rides. You gotta put in the mileage.

Or, I could just f@ck off. Maybe you do need a new saddle. Either way, Sheldon Brown's webpage was very illuminating to me. Hope that helps.

Another WTB user, Laser Stealth Ti...I don't know if they still make them....all leather, no cloth panels on them.

Ditto on the WTB, almost all work great for me. Stealth, rocket, lazer, they all just seem to work.

Stay away from Gel seats. When you sit on the saddle, really the majority of weight is on your two "butt bones" and the only thing the gel does is push against viens and reduces blood flow. Kind of just the opposite of what your trying to achieve. I've spent as much as 20 hours in the saddle before and you don't want a gel seat. A little padding goes a long ways.

SDG's & i've even got a cheap bontrager seat, comfy ones.dont go with gel ride more to get your ass time to adjust to the work your putting in.if it does'nt feel better after a couple weeks then get a new seat,it'll take time to find just the rite one sometimes.

I guess im in the minority here on the WTB saddles, i use whatever brand Jose won and donated to me. Thanks again!
Dont worry about the gel padded seats all you need is more ride time the first couple weeks when i started to ride my arse killed, i could hardely sit in a chair after some rides. If you want to increase the softness, get some nice padded riding shorts, i prefer the compression style, fits better to me.

Soo I use a Specialized saddle. Feels fine to me. At my last 24 race I learned your saddle is your best friend. Around 3:00am my fu*kin ass was killing. I need better padding on my lycra.

WTB Rocket Stealth, Specialized Rival - dump the gel and put some miles on. Your arse will get used to it.

Another thing - Bag Balm your taint...it's the sh>>>t!
