I got to ride my new Kona Hei Hei Supreme in its first race today and I was stoked! It was pretty chilly at the venue at 7 am and I had to resist wearing additional layers because that would soon change as temps were due to hit the middle 80s. The racer turnout was on the light side for some reason. Maybe it was because there were two other events going on and/or that it was on a Sunday vs the usual Saturday. Anyway, this meant higher series points for those who did come out. I raced Sport which meant 3 main laps. By my 3rd one, I was getting pretty cooked on the climbs. I finished 6/7 in Sport 50+ and was happy with that since I faltered in the sandy cobble wash early and had to make up a lot of time. The aprés race festivities at The Path Live Oak were well run. Lots of shade via EZ-Ups and hay bales for some rustic seating made a nice setting to hang out with friends and take in the raffle and awards. Lunch was awesome as The Path had endless carne asada coming off the BBQ grill for tacos. Abundant cold bevs, including a keg of Cismontane Coulter IPA, made for an epic post-ride grind. Next race is Caspers Regional Park on Nov. 2nd.--I can't wait.

    Me somewhere on course

Great pic David, where'd you get it? You summed it up well - light turnout for a variety of reasons but it was a great race nonetheless - post race festivities at the Path were off the hook, I mean, free carne asada tacos with all the trimmings? Yum!

Thanks for the RR. I'm sorry I missed it; sometimes its the small events that are the best. I've gotta pick up my shock at Live Oak today; maybe they'll have some left-overs. :)

Congrats Matt on your win, you deserve all them trimmings and tortillas - hahaha. I missed all that good stuff, my kids would have blown the roof if i stayed around waiting for Food =)

The pic was shot by my buddy Chris' brother--just an amateur guy messing around. I can see if he has any if folks are interested. Maybe your race number and/or kit or bike make and color will help ID you? Post them here and I'll have him look.

    455. Turner 5 spot. The photographer had a pretty professional looking camera so I assumed he was a freelance guy.

Thanks, Steve! I'll add you to the list. I checked out the Called to Creation pics and they looked pretty good. He got a lot of me for some reason--maybe I was slower so I was easier to focus on? :)
