Ride Report Rock Shox Golden State Downhill #4 (Finals)

With regard to the 2009 Cal State Results...
Do they tally points for all four races? Do they count 3 of 4 races?

The reason I ask is MANY riders have skipped a race... Many more were unable to set aside an entire weekend to attend the Mammoth races! In one way, those who attended all four races should be rewarded... In another way, it would SUCK (for a LOCAL AMATEUR RACER) to lose a championship due to the fact they were unable to attend a race that was 6 hours away! Opinions/Thoughts? :?:

Donny changed the rules this year and the overall was based on total number of points for all 4 races combined. He used to use best 3 of 4. That's why I got overall awards in both classes even though I only raced 1 race out of the series.

Donny changed the rules THIS YEAR when the final race was 6 hours away (driving distance)? :?:

Genius....

I for one didn't pay attention to the rule change but was EXTREMELY thrilled that Traci won it! She worked very hard at it and I was Proud of her!!! I made the choice not to do Nationals in Fontana.:beer:

to be honest, I didn't expect anything, seeing as I got less than top 10 for 2 races, missed another, and only got 3rd for the other.

I guess that's what I get for not paying attention to overalls

Plus we were hungry:lol::lol::lol:

My thoughts are that while your super positive attitude is important to some until you yourself do some racing, I'd keep those opinions concerning racing to yourself.

My wife worked her ass to be a "competitive" racer for this series, been racing since Feb and quit smoking in May, and if she was willing to travel to ALL 4 of the races so be it, does that make it not fair to other racers?

Just like Dan Snook and his rib injury this weekend she raced with a injury, to the eye none the less. I for one love racing and while there are moments of glory there are many many many more moments of riding back to your car, clip off your plate and going home.

Perhaps its a rant or I am simply defending my wife but let it be, I've watched her hit just about every emotion you can experience as a racer and all that for a 3 minute run down some loose dirt.... .The next series starts in 3 or 4 months and then all this can start all over again.#-o

Dino I also just noticed that those results do not include mammoth race that was results through 3 races.

We saw one guy face plant on the dirt landing while heading down the mountain...cameras were off unfortunately...was that you?

That may have been me. I went off the drop way left, landed in the soft stuff and went OTB. Luckily my bike was between my legs so i popped back up,

Most of the Incycle team drove up super early Fri. am to try to catch the last part of Exp/pro practice. Rolled in around 9 am, got the trailer parked, and suited up. I was pretty excited to see the added new part (the rock garden), but opted to go around it....... lack of sleep, and a long drive made me think twice about charging through the rocks.:?: Took a little nap, and headed out to practice the beg/sport course, yeah!!! racing clydesdale as well. Velocity feels like home to me on my DH bike, felt good and stayed relaxed, practice went well.

Sat. am rolled around, and I was ready for the exp/pro rock garden..... not! Rolled it first time, no problem, second time decided to come in with a little more speed, wrong idea, landed right on my head! Went down and cleaned myself up, and went after it again, cleaned it this time, but was still mad about crashing earlier.

Sunday= race day, and I felt ready, got through practice no problem, then came the race. Totally blew it right out of the gate, and was out of control the rest of the run. Crashed in the pumice, nothing bad, but my foot was stuck between the fork leg and wheel#-o. Ended up 15th out of 21 in Vet Pro, I guess the rock garden got the best of me in the end, decided to put it behind me, and focus on the clydes.

After sitting in the wind and talking with Traci and Kim, it was finally time to line up. They lined me up behind Traci, with no break between classes. I assured Traci that I would give her the right of way, no matter what! Took off out of the gate, much better start than my previous run, caught Traci in the deeeeeeeeep pumice above the tabletop jump, she was doing great, I took my time and went to the right side down the hill, caught Kim just before the wall ride, went by when it opened up, caught the next girl just before the beg/sport and exp/pro courses meet up again, she was picking herself up off the side of the trail, and nearly tossed her bike into me! Continued my run, caught the next girl entering the s-turns, passed her after the 2nd turn, came out of the turns, and pedaled hard, dropped into the 4x course, felt so relaxed and good, hittin all my lines, and I couldn't believe it, I had caught Julia as well! She took an outside berm, so I took the inside, and finished. Ended up winning the clydes, and I hope that I did not impede any of the ladies race runs, all of you did great, I have had the pleasure of watching each of you improve throughout the year.

Congratulations Traci!!!!!!

Is that the "weeehhhhh-bulance i hear?"

Those came out pretty damm good. She was using a cell phone right?

Nope that was digi cam. Since i suck at taking still pics i was just shooting videos. I know there must be more videos then what he put, but then again i was FREEZING between the trees that i was so happy to get outta there!

Congrats to all that raced! Specially those with injuries.

I am impressed to hear that Traci still raced even with an injury above the eye- That's proof of commitment and a true racer. :bang:
Having raced with an injury before(two times), I can say it's very discomforting. As if the race itself wasn't already too much pressure- flying down a hill with a helmet rubbing around on a wound has got to be annoying as shit. Way to tough it out!

I personally hate racing- because I can never get better than 5th place in Beginners! Turn it into a crash contest, and I'll be sure to win!!!

I like what Neil says... thats how we roll!

I even missed one race (first one) because I chickened out, but then I went for the 2nd round, woodward, after Nancy, Robert Compton, Mike, and Dustin encourage me to join. Now I ended up 10th overall, not bad for first race after being back on saddle in late Jan, after 10 years off of saddle. Look forward to next race season.

It was fun racing in Mammoth. My first run was described and horrible and it was. Its funny because for weeks all I could think about was racing in Mammoth. Then I get there and look at Velocity and think "I can't do this". I am told I can't do it and encouraged not to race. At 14 years old you still believe what adults tell you. Luckily my mom is always there for me and has the right advice. Mom tells me it's up to you and nobody else. Her advice is take advantage of Nancy, Roger and Traci they would love to show you. Then I think I don't want to ruin their practice time. Bryan saved the day by taking the time to show me the way down Velocity. I am guilty I walked the rock garden several times and learned to dab through it on race day. My peddal getting stuck on my race run. Denmother said she had trouble with the rock garden her first time racing Mammoth. This statement from Denmother made me feel better. On race day I felt confident I could at least get myself through the course without getting off my bike. That's all I wanted was to get through the course. I tuned the pain from my torn ligament on my knee out. When your a kid and have injuries people tend to tune you out.

It's all the time at the track and the lesson's Dino gave me at Fontana that got me through this race. All the thursday night rides with the thursday night crew. Dino hope you think me breaking the smoothie machine in Fontana was worth your time spent with me. I feel like a really lucky kid having ridden with really cool peeps on STR. Also, hanging out with the best Denmother. On each ride someone teaches me something different. One thing that always works for me is following AndyRut or Freds line. I wish they would have been there so I cold follow their line down Velocity. It's all good I made it down and all I could think "I did it". It wasn't certain I would race before leaving home, making it to the podium was a big suprise to me and everyone there.

Placing last to me never matters it's dissappointing my people that gives me trouble.

Competing is difficult for me I played soccer and was expected to win every game. The time I did lose a game I was called a loser. This is why I left soccer and now ride bikes.

Congratulations to Traci, SuperDKim and Denmother and all racers. The lady Snowboarder who raced with me. The lady who raced with me taught me about being a good competitor. After our race she wanted to know who I was and what I like.

Off to school late start today. I'll being playing at my first football game tonight. No BMX track tonight.:(
