I must say, I have had a blast these last few races! I consider myself quite lucky to have made the finals in my first 3 MTX/4X or whatever the designation is. I've gotten to meet some really nice people, been welcomed by most everyone and have been having fun. I really enjoy the atmosphere at the races and the comraderie....thanks.
Okay, so for a race report. So, when I get to the park, I run into my normal crew, hang out and then go sign up. Cheez calls me out on my way to the sign up tables, that always makes me smile. See a few guys I haven't seen in a while, get a little caught up with them, then on to tuning the bike.
Make a few practice runs, get some gates, feeling okay for the day. Around race time, I start getting a bit nervous, as there are 9 total in my class. 1st rack, Tom gets a great gate and I'm cranking in second, see Mark go into the turn REALLY low, he washes out. Hope he's okay as I make my way down the rest of the course, hoping that Tom will make a mistake (well, we know THAT didn't happen!).
Up for the next round, I have Mark & BryGuy in my race, still a bit nervous, as these two are younger, faster & lighter than me! I get a great (for me) gate and take off, but I can hear someone right on my tail, I keep going, hit the lower section into "My" turn and there's BryGuy coming right alongside me, but on the outside going into the next turn, so I ride him outside a bit, and then I hear him crash on the inside of me (thinking WTF? How did he cut back inside so quick? Dern whippersnappers!). I'm waaaay out of breath but very happy to have a bit of a break going into the semi. Semi's up and somehow, I'm stuck with Tom again! So Tom, Art & I load up in the gate. BAM! Tom is out like a lightning bolt and I am in the wrong gear, looks like I'm out of contention, but I keep going knowing that anything can happen in a race. Sure enough, coming into turn 3, I see Art on the ground and his bike coming up towards my line. If it had gone any further, I would have owed Art a new wheel! I keep going and make it to the finals! Still waaaay out of breath, Tom telling me to stop rushing up the hill as they have to wait for us old farts anyway.
Main time, and I'm still nervous! It's Tom, Mr. Cox (forgot your first name after the beers bro, sorry!), my friend Robert and myself. I get a good gate, but I am off the back (as usual in the mains...sheesh! Get in shape will ya?). Still, all in all, it was fun and a great day of racing!
Thanks again to everyone who has welcomed me and has been supportive!
