Thanks...you did great and pushed me.....I had a blast and hope to see you again.....

Hills and uneven terrain disrupted my cadence during the peddling portion, humbling me repeatedly. But 5 miles into the last part of the journey in the thick of the summer heat, as I watched my goals slide away with my sweat, I salvage some dignity. There is honor in finishing what you start, I remind myself-no matter what happens along the way-even when the only prize is a hard lesson. Today I faced pain and failure and redefined them. I did the best I could. And that tells me everything I need to know about myself.

Holy Smokes. I got 16 requests for pictures, that's way too many for me to go through. I just signed up for a photobucket account just for you guys. Currently uploading. Will put up a link when it's done!

So it turns out that it was my friend who crashed (the lady you are speaking about!). Did you see what happened? Or how long she was down for? She doesn't remember anything!

Finally got them uploaded to PhotoBucket! Enjoy!

If anyone wants a full resolution image PM me the file name and your email address. Offer only good for STR members! ;)

She doesn't remember anything as in.... she doesn't remember "how" it happened or as in she doesn't even remember the actual crash even happening?

well if it's the same lady you are talking about, she was descending that quick steep section towards the lake. She was riding a lefty Cannondale as well.

She started coming down the hill, looked really hesistant and basically front brake checked and superman'd...er...superwoman'd over the bars and right on her head. I ran over and another rider stopped to help her. She got the wind knocked out of her and was pretty dazed, but after a few minutes she jumped on her bike and finished the race.

She is definitely a trooper!:clap:

Yup! That's her (cannondale lefty hardtail)! She remembers going down but doesn't remember getting up or talking to anyone, just that she got back on her bike to finish. She's fine and had an absolute blast the rest of the race but last time I talked to her she was at the Dr.s to check things out. Thanks for the details, I know she'll appreciate the details!

Edit: She doesn't even remember going down or getting back on her bike (see my post below for details).

What a great event! Kudos to the organizers. Well thought out, well organized, good people all around and, oh yeah, lots of fun.

Most impressive? Generating the sponsor support and creating a race that seems so right it begs the question why didn't someone think of this before.

I am sure there were some little problems but I can't think of any that warrant comment. Thanks for the great job. I'll be back as often as I can.

Just called her to tell her the details (she's not on STR)- she doesn't even remember going down! Last thing she remembers was approaching that descent and the next was crossing the finish line. She doesn't remember talking to you or the other rider; that's prob why she seemed so dazed!

She just got back from the Dr.s- she had a concussion and a cracked helmet. Another story about how wearing a helmet can save your life- the doc said she would have cracked her skull had she not been wearing it!

DESPITE all that, she LOVED the race! And is doing a very good job of talking me into doing the next ones. Her doc said no riding for 2 weeks #-o but after that she'll be back!

Thanks for the pic, she'll appreciate it! :bang:

Yowza! Glad she is ok. Tell her to lay off those brakes and get behind that seat next time and she will flow thru just fine!

that some krazy story... I wonder how she rode the rest of the race if she wasn't even consciously aware of her actions. Maybe she rode like a pro and didn't even know it... :-k

I think that I am going to head out there next week for the first time.

Is the course open for practice on non race days?

The race organizers seemed a little on the defensive about people coming on STR and ripping them. You guys have nothing to worry about. The course was fun, the venue is perfect and you guys are doing a great job. It seems like OTH really has it together with the blog, FB page, website, etc. Well organized and 11 more races to dial in the specifics.

I like this course better than last year's, feels much faster. I was thinking how fun the S-turns after the climb would be if the corners were bermed like a 4-cross course. It will be interesting to see how the course changes over the summer. Good times.
