I started at age 5 on a AMF Roadmaster in '67. Stripped it down to rides the trails on the edge of town in the midwest. A lot of kids trash their bikes there and I would buy them on the spot for $5-$10 with my lawn mowing money.

Began my bike repair/refurb biz and and paid my brother to mow lawns with me.

Bought an old 10 speed in 5th grade, promptly crashed it trying to use the coaster brake. Surprise surprise! '69 Cuda you're in my way!

Bought a CYC Magic Mushroom BMX bike in 77 and raced throughout the midwest and then moved to SoCal and got serious until 78.

I really missed riding but my only interest was trails and I was 200lbs and too big for a bmx bike. But the Cal look VW craze was upon us and I drifted away from riding.

Was working at a surf/bike/ski shop after HS in '83 and my cousin came to visit from Willits. Brought a bike that "Gary" somebody had built and let me keep it for the summer. I never wanted to give it back. Had it for 2 years. Caught some guy trying to steal it and was chasing him down when he bolted into traffic on Olympic Blvd. Neither of them made it. Still feel nothing for that guy. Still cringe at the loss of the bike. Didn't realize what I had until years later.

I talked my boss into expanding into MTBs but left for college in KS soon after.

Started college with a Ross Mt. Tam in '83. Sold it a few months later instead of pawning my Strat. Had a moment of lucidity and sold the Strat and bought my bike back a few months later. Loved that bike. Sold it when I moved to the Gulf coast. Bought another one a couple of years ago on eBay for $100. Gave it to my nephew to use.

Got a Cannondale in '86 and rode it for years in Hawaii. Did a trade out with my paper for a Nishki e-stay POS in '90 from the LBS, big mistake.

Bought a used Stumpjumper in 97 from a military guy in our club that was being transfered to Germany.

Stopped riding until last summer. Got the urge big time to ride again and got a pseudo Overdrive Pro now. Love it.

Ya know its crazy. After all these years I never knew I would be thinking about bikes I had and how many I now have. I thought I grew out of bike once I got a skateboard. I loved skateboarding, still do. But now im back into bikes. HMMMM.

    Great thread!

I started on a great black steel Schwinn Beach Cruiser, chrome rack out back and all!

Next was a steel Diamondback rigid with 18 speeds and cantilever brakes, black with neon green streaks- very early nineties.

Then was steel GT Palomar, again steel rigid, this time 21 gripshifted speeds, bright metallic red.

The bike that really sold me on mountain biking was a matte red Iron Horse Maverick SE hardtail, aluminum, Manitou fork, disk brakes!

This year I moved almost everything from the Iron Horse over to my Jamis Dakar XLT 3.0 frame I picked up from JensonUSA and that's what I'm getting myself into trouble with.

Wow, some of you guys have been riding a LONG time, haha. Congrats to all of you guys! I've compiled a pretty good list though.
Huffy-circa 1995 (everyone starts with a Huffy right?)
Completely chromed out Dyno Air with the mag wheels, my first "cool" bike. I loved that thing, it ended up being a trampoline bike eventually because it was so short.
Then come the big dogs starting at 13 years old..about 1999?
Standard Trailboss The Robbie Morales signature series, the same frame as the T-1 progression and FIT. Profile 3pc crankset, S&M Slam bar specials, Primo pedals, Alex Doublewalls with DK hubs, 990's in the rear no fronts. Ended up parting that out due to snapping the rear triangle playing guinea pig on a new rhythm set.
Volume Solid at least I believe that's what it was. After snapping the Standard, I went on to a huge beefed up street frame, with a lot of the parts off of the Standard, but with XS cranks and Alex Triple walled rims.
Standard Trails 250 slotted out to 14mm axles. Many parts transferred again with Standard Forks as well that I had on the Solid. Kink 45 tooth sprocket (doing a lot of disasters at this point) 13 tooth flywheel. This was my favorite setup I've had on a bike w/ the profile cranks, Alex triple walls, S&M Stem and low Slam Bars. Heavy components, lighter frame, it was a park machine!
Haro Escape- my current setup, nothing special, but I plan to start upgrading, then buying a DS freeride frame and slowly start a part swapping/upgrading setup.

I thought I was bad, I'm glad to see others are as addicted or more addicted to bike swapping than I am.
Hello my name is Russell and I have an addiction:
    MTB
    1) Trek 98r- 1993
    2) Giant Trance 2
    3) Giant Trance 1
    4) Specialized Epic disk
    5) Giant Anthem 1

    10) Salsa Dos Niner
    11) Niner Jet9 (now)
My favorites were the Giant Anthem 1, Niner Sir9, both Salsas and now my jet. I could have done without the rest of them.

    Road-
    1) Trek Soho
    2) Trek FX 7.6
    3) Trek FX 7.9 (now)

I'm down to two bikes in the stable and I want to build another 29er SS. After looking at my list, I need to be happy with what I have and call it day.

List of past mountain bike???? This could take a while

It all started around 1994 with a no name blue rigid everything POS bike with shimano sticker on it that I bought for 50 bucks??? The brakes didn't work and we were riding with jeans and tshirts....not a pretty sight. I remember joining some group rides and puked my guts out at top of the hill....not much of a hill I must add. Friend of mine who I rode with would always get tunnel vision and had to lay down. We even had a portable cot in the car for him......good times!

Then I got my first real mountain bike around 1995? Blue GT Timberline, that's when upgradetitise first bit. Purple stem rocks! Rode it through my college years and some. I do miss that bike very much.

1999 I got my first real job and I plunked down 2000 bucks for a GT LTS1000. It was anodized orange and Judy XL tripple crown fork AND Rockshox Disk brake up front.....yes I was hot.

Then dry spell.....work, GF and no riding buddy so I got lazy.....and fat.

Then around 2004 I ran into couple of peeps and the MTB bug bit again! Sold my LTS and bought a Giant AC1. Heavy as boat anchor but I still like it. Then I sold the Giant and bought an Intense Uzzi.....it was plush but heavy so I figure I'll switch to Uzzi SL. BAD IDEA! I did not like the SL at all. So that was sold quick.

Then bought my first chumba.....the EVO. Rode the prototype and loved it. Waited 4 month for it to be made. That was around 2005.

Upgradetitise bit hard! I had 4 different fork and 3 different shocks on that baby and 2 different set of wheels.

THEN around 2007 Dubjay let me try his Aizan SS.......WOW so off I go to the dark side. Built an Aizan 29 SS and it was awesome! In 2008 I built my dream SS 29er and she rocks! The kool aid was just too tasty to stop so I bought and sold a few 29er bikes: RIP9, Spyder29, pivot 429......the pivot is for sale anyone?

Last month I bought a used Chumba XCL and took it to San Juan today and it performed better than expected. Very nice!

Ok this is all I can remember and I'm sure I had few more bikes than that but the effect of old age is kicking in. #-o

    12. I got a GT LTS-1 as a warranty replacement for the Team LTS then cracked this one too.
