Phantom Pooper almost caught!

Are we sure it's just one guy? For all we know, this turd could have a whole network of trained underlings ready to plant dirty bombs all over our trails at any moment.

 

My first inclination was that although DNA could probably be found in epithelial cells in the poop, it would probably be difficult to get a good sample with intact cells that havent degenerated. But I thought I'd do a PubMed search anyway and apparently you can.....

My sick and twisted side of me thinks this thread 1. expresses the frustration of those who encounter the problem, you have my sympathy 2. for wondering what kind of diet does this guy have, to keep him so regular? does he really drink "lots of water"? is it the high fiber? is it high fat? is it magnesium? dairy product? soy? or does he have irritable bowel? maybe that is why he is so irratable? If is its IBS, what is he so uptight about that draws him to do his business on the trail? Maybe he has a food allergy which compounds the problem causing irrational behaviour. :?:

 

The two times I encountered this creep's crap it was chock full of corn kernels. He must mow two or three ears the night before on purpose.
He wants to leave no doubt that it is human excrement left on purpose.

I actually agree with dirtvert that "going vigilante" on the guy is not the way to go (by either the non-police rangers or the public). You don't know the guy's mindset, physical capabilities, or whether he is carrying any weapons. So far, his crimes do not involve any violence or even any threat of violence. Confronting him risks elevating the situation and as far as I'm concerned, I'm not paid to do that and it's just not worth risking my life. Although I'm not critical of the ranger's actions (now that I know that they are not sworn peace officers), I still question their function and think that real police should instead be patrolling the area.

And yes, if the pooper (or as proposed, someone who "goes off" at my work) creates a risk of physical harm to me, the proper response is overwhelming violence to the extent necessary to neutralize the threat.
