Hey all. So finished a good ride today, and at about 7:30pm ranger stopped us and was asking if we did a certain trail. Not going to name it but the main point is that they are patrolling after 5 . Saw it last week twice too at 7pm, on 2 different trails. From what I hear theyre getting alot stricter and are doing alot of trails in the area. So if your out there keep an eye open and look before you enter. Please don't name trails here, no need to, just a heads up. Happy Trails

Homies, I say let's all leave our Troy Lee kits home for the next few weeks and lay low by wearing darker more organic tones/poaching colors. *I'll be rocking some camo shorts - holla at yo boy if/when you *see me. :/

IDK, I've seen you climb (Like I descend)... You are a hiker. I'd never be caught dead hiking in spandex though, especially bibs!

Let em lurk, you can't be cited, arrested, tried, convicted or even questioned for mentioning who what where when and why. Unless you were caught on SAID trail, you've done nothing wrong UNLESS you admit it while in an obvious location on the trail, say you're between Emerald canyon and Old Emerald coming back up to the fireroad from an undisclosed location. Either way, I always adhere to my don't lie policy, even when caught. You're better off owning up to a mistake than lying to someone of authority that CLEARLY knows the terrain and can smell a liar from 2 miles away. Show respect and dignity and you shall receive the same. [-o-]

Its not that i think well get busted by talking about poaching here! Its just that more talk of the subject on public forums for anyone to see can only lead to more aggressive enforcement, trail closures, and anti-mtb sentiment. i and many others consider this a subject best left for pms.

I agree with you 90%. Its the 10% that ruin it by SH-talking enforcement, etc. We all take the risk of riding/poaching and I dont understand why we still act surprised when we get caught, lol Myself included. Ride what you wish, just man up when the law is waiting for you. #-o

I've never ridden in Laguna. Are there trails marked for no bikes? Are there trails marked where bikes are allowed? Is there a time limitation? Thanks.

All the legal trails are marked with a signpost (that I recall). There are a few that are marked with a signpost that says hiking OK, but biking is not. See official park map on their website http://ocparks.com/parks/lagunac/

What I don't get, If they really want to keep people (bikers and hikers) off the non legal trails, why don't they block the trail entrance and put up a sign saying off limits? Lack of funds? But they can put rangers there to patrol? "might" keep honest people honest to sign them, or just draw people to them(?)

They did that at El Moro when the closed Deer Camp/NBTD......and the sign was constantly being torn out. What finally worked was throwing so much dead brush down into the beginning of the trail, that is was more pain than it was worth to ride it.

Nothing wrong being done here Gary. If the rangers want to try and be slick and change up their scheduling for ticketing and stay hidden before handing you a ticket, then its only right everyone who rides those trails daily as part of their routine be informed. Doesnt seem right having the rangers suddenly gain an urge to patrol after hours and in greater numbers, and not give a heads up.

Isn't the fact that Mtber is knowingly riding an illegal trail enough heads up? Fact is, if anyone rides an illegal trail, there might be rangers patroling 24/7. And, its their right to. By poaching these trails, it gives them a reason that they even need to patrol. That makes the rest of the mountain bike community look bad.

But, whatever. Ride wherever. Just don't complain if/when you get cited for poaching.
