I thought I remembered reading in a thread a while back that there was a shuttle service that could be set up for the Palm Canyon Epic. I tried to do a search for it, but had no luck. :?: Did I dream this, or does it exist? If so, does anyone have the contact information? Thank you! Cheers, Andy
The best shuttle service that I could come up with was Palm Springs Cab: 760-322-4444. Ahmed Rashid was our driver in his 2008 Dodge mini van. 75 miles per hour back up to the trailhead, $80.00 for the fare. This is what it looks like when you get 5 guys and their bikes in the van:
Not the same guy, I don't think our driver played American Football. Here's the picture I snapped of him:
Help! I'm in the palm springs are tomorrow, and I feel like shuttling rather than climbing. Would someone be so kind as to tell me which trails to take, where to be dropped off, and where to be picked up? Cheers!:drunk:
http://www.mountainbikebill.com/palmcanyon.htm There is still snow off the 74 HWY near Pinyon Flats. I just came back from Palm Springs this afternoon. Make sure you ride it with someone who knows the route because there is no cell service most of the way down and it's pretty challenging terrain. Just be prepared for the unexpected including a lot of running water down the creek section due to melting snow.
Refer to El Cap's post above......however note that this ride still involves plenty of climbing and HAB even if you skip HBV or the climb up to Murray Peak..... This is not a typical all-downhill type of shuttle....
I need to check this place out sometime before summer every time I see a ride report on it looks like a lot of fun.
We used this service last month. $50.00/person. Bike rack, comfortable, seating, picked up in Cathedral City and taken to Pinion Flats and dropped off. Cut and dry. Need to post a RR when you get back. Have fun! http://www.bwbtours.com/
You could call Cory at Palm Desert Cyclery and ask him. He used to do it all the time for us for $40...your car. The shop does not offer any formal shuttles, only Cory.
I just talked to Cory at Palm Springs Cyclery (not Palm Desert) and he's not willing to do it for liability sake. Too bad, as having someone drive your own vehicle back down is the way to go.
If you take two vehicles, though, make sure that you take your keys for the car on the bottom on your ride. Not that I would realize when I got to the bottom after 26 miles that my keys were in the vehicle at the top......nah!
Taking two vehicles adds at least 1 1/2 hours to an already long day not too mention all the extra gas. Nothing like having your car waiting for you after a 4-5 hour ride.
Did Art Smith to Von's via Hahn, Wildhorse, etc. and took a cab back to the Art Smith trailhead. Just tell the dispatcher that you've got bikes and they'll send a van. The guy was totally cool and helpful. It was $40 to Art Smith from Von's.
