I have to give Mondo props for fixing my bike. I was having major ghost shifting on 6-9 on the rear and the chain would jump off the middle chain ring if i got out of the saddle to an attempt to gain speed for a hit/jump. Mondo left me an email, so i called him to discuss the issues. after a brief conversation on the phone I was set to drop my bike off on friday the 7th. I was unable to drop my bike off after work, but made arrangements to drop it off saturday afternoon. Mondo opened his shop on the weekend to fit my schedule! :bang:

after another description of what issues i was having, Mondo recommended smaller things (basic tune and shifter cables) rather than major component change to keep the cost down. The tuning consisted of true'ing the wheels, removing and cleaning the chain, cleaning of other components, tuning shifters, dialing my brakes in, and he even hooked me up with a cassette that he had laying around! Mondo said the bike would be ready for me to pick up monday afternoon! talk about turn around.

i am not a pro biker, just a hard working american that appreciates honesty and hard work! My bike will get mondo's attention from now on!

got the bike yesterday and rode around the block before hockey, and the bike is smooth again! i couldnt believe it! shifting is snappy, smooth and instant!, bike rolls 100 times better. definitely worth the drive out there.

he even let me ride some of his personal DJ bikes that he was putting together.

Thanks so much for the kind words, Steve; it was my pleasure helping you...don't forget to come back after a few weeks for a free "re-dial" of your bike.

Cheers

Pacific Bicycle Repairs

I have had Mondo at Pacific Bicycle Repairs put together one bike and do some maintenance on another bike and I couldn't be any happier with the service I received. Not only did he service and build my bikes, but he picked the stuff up at my house and returned it the same day when he was done! I couldn't have gotten it done within four days (not including my driving time) from any other shop.

Even without the pickup and delivery I have never experienced this kind of customer service. I have only heard about it from my parents. You know, back in the day, customer service this customer service that, along with walking uphill both ways to and from school in the snow. Now I know what they are talking about when they say things aren't like they used to be. Well now they are like they used to be. I highly recommend Mondo and Pacific Bicycle Repair. Give him a shot, you will not be disappointed!

Here is a pic of what Mondo built for me today! My first 29er, I can't wait to get out on it.....

Mondo worked at the Path for many years...and many of us know that is a well respected shop in OC.

Aside from being great at wrenching, Mondo is a cool dude and a kick ass rider!

I agree The Path is a great bike shop. I always try and buy my stuff there. It just seems like there is a void when it comes to mechanics at any shop I have been to. I have had many bikes built up over the years and it always seems like there is something I am not happy with or something that needs to be fixed or adjusted after the build is complete. I mean immediately after, not talking about after after the cables stretch, etc.

That was not the case with this build. I jumped on it and rode for as much as I could with a sore back from a wreck I was involved in, and I could not find anything that I was not happy with or that needed to be adjusted. I think the quality control at most of the bike shops is lacking. This was not a problem with Mondo's work. This translates into more riding time and less time trying to tie up loose ends with the bike (which comes out of my riding time).

Just took my 29er to Pacific Bicycle Repair and Mondo quickly solved an issue I was having with my cranks/bottom bracket. The bike felt so much better/smoother on the ride home. :bang:

Thanks Mondo!!

Pacific Bicycle Repair - Review

Now that I had an opportunity of experiencing the work products of Mondo at Pacific Bike Repair I would like to post a review:

Services Rendered on 4 bikes:

- Pike Dual Air fork, Fox Float R fork, Marzocchi 66 fork overhaul.
- Fox DHX Air 5.0 overhaul.
- Blackspire Beavertail chain guide install.
- Frame pivot bearing replacement.
- Bottom bracket replacement.
- Drill thru on internal cable stops to run one-piece brake housing.

Results:

- Fork overhauls: Changed oil and seals. Mondo charges only costs on the seal kits. Value added service - all the cabling & wheel sensor were re-installed to perfect working order. My forks are butter, I thought I was given new and better forks!

- Rear air shock overhaul: Took it apart, cleaned, changed a seal and refilled with Fox Float Fluid. Made the shock feel more responsive and smoother.

- Chain guide install: The Beavertail has some fit issues but Mondo made it work by re-arranging the BB spacers and chainline.

- Frame Pivot: I thought the pivot bearings were shot and told Mondo I need them replaced but Mondo saved me a lot of money by examining it and told me all I needed was adjustment! He could've just replaced them and made more money.

- Bottom Bracket Replacement: A simple job but Mondo hunted around for the most sensible replacement option to save me money.

- Drill thru on internal cable stops: This is meticulous hand work and it was beautifully done.

Other comments:

- PBR's work is of high quality and standard backed with many years of experience.

- Technical tips and recommendations on many aspects of equipment that will save you money. Ask the question and Mondo will tell you if it's worth it or not! Saves you money by giving you smart component choices. Mondo is not here to sell you parts or a bike, so he'll spend the time answering your tech questions instead of wondering if you are going to buy something from him.

- Quick turn around. Will work to meet your needs and riding schedule. Stayed at the shop late to meet me due to my work schedule.

- Do what's needed without asking: If Mondo sees something on the bike that needs adjustment and fixing, he'll do it automatically for free or charge a very reasonable fee. To me this is value-added service and saves me time because I don't have to bring the bike back when whatever finally goes out of whack.

- Very competitive pricing: I don't want to go into Mondo's rates but it's very very competitive. You are going to be satisfied!

- High security: Mondo has a super-vicious junk yard dog to guard your expensive bike! She almost licked the flesh off of my hand! ;)

For those who don't know Frankie...

The man does NOT sugar coat anything!
If he likes you- He will tell you! If there is a problem- He will SURELY tell you!!!

Observations...
-Mondo is a good guy
-Mondo is a highly capable (and knowledgeable) mechanic
-Mondo bent over backwards to ensure Frankie's bikes would be ready for Mammoth
-Frankie is a tough man to please! The fact he took time out of his day to write a review... Never thought I'd see the day!
-Frankie and I spoke moments after he picked-up/rode one of the bikes.
He was TRULY amazed at how much better his BLINGY bikes felt!

Well done Mondo

One thing I forgot to mention is trust...

I'm a DIY guy who loves to do everything myself. I built practically all my bikes from scratch so I can have them just the way I like them. I put all the stuff together myself so I know care was put into it.

Yes, I have some control issues with my bikes... so it took a lot for me to relinquish control of 4 bikes all in one sitting and hand them over to someone else. I know Mondo has a ton of experience working on bikes and in the industry so in Mondo I trust...and relinquished :bang:

Oh, not to mention his kung fu is so much better than mine. :p

That's a nice rig. The black with white accent looks clean and sharp.

Think I will contact PBR for a bike build I'm working on. It's nearly done, but will need to have a tune-up and what not done. I'm pretty far in the SGV area, but with all these positive reviews, definitely have to try it out since I prefer my bike in good hands.
