P****ies at aliso today

No. Common courtesy would be to say "hi there, hows it going"

There is no reason to "ask permission" to ride any of these trails at any time. Maybe if you were about to drop into a mouth of a one-way double-diamond single track at a bike park, but this is a multi use trail on a weekend where there is uphill traffic, hikers and slower riders to be expected. I know it sucks to have slow riders in front of you when you want to bomb, but that's tough shit, happens to all of us all of the time. They way to deal with it is not to come on this forum and complain that there are pussies in your way and they didn't have any respect to ask if they could go down the trail in front of you first. Should have just waited 5 minutes or just passeed them when it was safe to do so without complaining and not make such a big deal about it. I don't know if the OP is still lurking and reading this or not, but I do hope you reessess your attitude. This kind of "my trail" DH attitude is what makes people dislike mountain bikers in general. Please think about your actions when riding in public trail parks and how they reflect on all of us.

lookie here sport, and listen up to the rest of you that have repeated similar thoughts:

I DO NOT THINK ANYONE NEEDS TO ASK ME PERMISSION TO GO DOWN THE TRAIL. I DON'T THINK I OWN THE TRAIL. I DO THINK THAT IF I AM SITTING AT THE TRAILHEAD ON MY BIKE AND AM A 5 SECOND HELMET SNAP OPERATION AWAY FROM HEADING DOWN, IT IS COMMON COURTESY TO SAY "HEY, ARE YOU GONNA DROP OR IS IT COOL IF I GO DOWN?" THAT'S WHAT I DO FOR OTHERS, THAT'S WHAT I EXPECT IN RETURN FOR MYSELF. I KNOW, I KNOW, THAT SEEMS PRETTY UNREASONABLE.

RE-READ THAT FIRST PART BTW, BECAUSE SOME OF YOU SEEM TO BE HAVING TROUBLE WITH IT: I WAS NOT BLOW APART IN A MESS OF GEAR AND CAMELBAKS AND BIKES ALL OVER THE PLACE, I WAS SEATED ON MY BIKE IN FRONT OF THE TRAILHEAD BUCKLING MY HELMET - AND TO THOSE THAT ARGU'E 'WHY WASNT IT ON ALREADY?', TRY PUSHING A ****ING DOWNHILL BIKE FOR 10 MILES WITH A FULLFACE HELMET AND GOGGLES ON IN 80 DEGREE HEAT. AND NO, I WASN'T SACKED OUT FROM THE EFFORT OF GETTING UP THERE, I WAS LETTING SOME PEOPLE THAT WERE A COUPLE HUNDRED YARDS INTO THE TRAIL CLEAR OUT OF THE WAY IN BOTH CASES, HIKERS IN ONE, SLOW RIDERS IN THE OTHER. HOW LONG AM I SUPPOSED TO SIT AND LET PEOPLE CLEAR OUT/DROP IN IN FRONT OF ME?

I think I found the violator. Here is a composite sketch based on your description.

why wouldn't you just go to the other side of aliso to test your bike? your dh bike is more suited for that side anyways. just wondering.

I did both, only mentioned one side tho in this thread. Started my day in aliso for ease of up hill and for just making sure fork went back together correctly; the otherside is tough to hike alone more than once or twice without falling over dead from exhaustion. plus less penalty for failure if I eat on aliso side than the other side...

I think your chillin 7pt. At first I was taken back by your post, but the more I thought about it the more I bet it wasnt as bad as it seemed. You were probably just venting some thoughts that came out bad. Kudos for sticking around this thread this long though. Happy trails

I'll accquiesce to that. Language could been better but I will stand behind the basic argument till I join the "Band." Made it to 6 pages, exceeded my wildest dreams and aspirations so that's pretty rad.

yeah pushing up canyon acres is a nightmare how did the fork turn out?

So you expect us to believe that if the situation was reversed, and you rolled up on a few, ahem.... "pussies" in their lycra and fanny packs on full rigid bikes, and they were adjusting their clipless shoes or something, you would ask ""HEY, ARE YOU GONNA DROP OR IS IT COOL IF I GO DOWN?"

Or would you say to yourself "thank GAWD they are not ready yet!!!!" and roll right on pass and drop in?

Don't blow a fuse, we are all just commenting on the impression you made in your first post. And I do understand where you are coming from, but my point is just chill and don't worry about it.

I'm going to side with 7pt on this one.
My example. At Santiago Oaks, there is often a gathering at the top of chutes ridgeline. That trailhead has an excellent vantage point of the first half of the trail. I can easily judge the speed and skill of riders as they go down the rock garden and over the small jumps. I will then give them their space accordingly and then enjoy my turn. I think it is nice to give people their space and not pressure them to have to move over. A few times, I have experienced a rider who see's the queue, yet cuts ahead. It is frustrating, but it's not enough to ruin the ride.

I hear what you're saying but I do, regularly. I did it several times the same day orig post was about. And I have offered plenty to drop in ahead of me if I am fiddling or whooped from the climb or whatever. If someone else is there when I get to the top I always check or just wait my turn because it's annoying to me when others don't.

Agreed! I think his OP came off wrong. I do ask when approaching a trailhead w other riders if they're ready to go. I just wanted 7pt not to get all worked up bc there's always tomorrow.

I am curious: Are you from OC or another county/state? I didn't take your OP as if you were suffering from "entitlement" syndrome but expect the same courtesy you give to others. I get tired of people stereotyping OC natives.

7pt...consider this a lesson learned. There are TONS of dirt roadies and hikers (shit I even ran into a gang of fixies hikin UP Lynx once!!!) and such roaming Aliso on weekends at all given hours, this should be common knowledge. I am at DH'r at heart but ride 70% of the time on my trail bike. I am in your situation A LOT. What do I do?
Yeah...I wait. I've waited 5-8 minutes at times, even letting other riders go ahead of me. Does it bum me out..yeah, am I racing? no
There's places for that..Fontana series maybe?
Weekday rides???
EARLY AM dawn patrol rides???
check.....I do them all (with a full time job and 2 kids/wife). Early AM weekday dawn patrol rides are key if you want speed and nobody around...this is when I open 'er up.
Spring is here, summer is coming and there are PLENTY of yoga-pant wearing MILF's running around as well...take time out to enjoy the view!
Also...no pain no gain. If you own a DH rig...hiking is going to happen, prepare ahead of time and don't go out in the middle of the heat.
This whole story reminds me of an occurance a few years back in Aliso. Not going there, but just keep in mind you are not the only person on the trails.
Save up for Whistler man! or hope to heck Big Bear opens up...but Aliso on a weekend with a DH bike on the "known trails" = BAD IDEA

I will stick to the trail less traveled. We rode Crystal Lake Saturday and had no problems...a few hikers, two other STR members and the Forest Service Trail crew were all we saw. Patience is a virtue that must be exercised to grow...going to Aliso is guaranteed to give ya practice.

I agree too on the OP and the OC bashing.. I like the OP's comment about "how long should I wait".. I could see waiting for others to clear knowing you're gonna be doing some bombing, and then while you're waiting another group snakes in.. could be frustrating to feel like a doormat.. has zero to do with OC or Entitlement but I do enjoy reading some people's reactions and how quickly they will play the OC card.. hey if you don't like OC, then move somewhere else.. it's pretty simple..

I don't know about OC being one way or another, but I know from my surfing days there was discourteous behavior everywhere-- Swami's, Malibu, Rincon.. along with a certain Island chain in the Pacific. One of the reasons I took up skiing, especially backcountry. Hard to get your knickers in a wad when you're sitting on top of Mt. Ritter with the hordes 20 miles away in Mammoth.

So I think 7pt's on the right track, but rattled some chains by putting Aliso, p****ies, and dh bike in the first twenty words. Maybe he should've said All Mountain.
