there should be a way to post comments on what some people sell on the classifieds section, specially when they post stuff, asking for more of what you can actually get it from a shop.
Some times I feel like saying, Do you really know how much that costs brand new?

I know is none of my business what people do, and what they want to get for what they got, but, oh well

I feel the same way. Whenever I go online to buy from a person I expect to be able to get a deal. When I sell something, I know I need to give a deal. It's how it works in my eyes and is why I can easily agree.

If I was a shop however, I could see my standard practice being different.

I think they are trying to ask for more so they can get "talked down" to what they paid. If I'm buying it used expect a low ball offer. I don't really want what you have for sale that bad, to pay retail for it from you. Retail from a shop gets me a warranty as well. Something not many sellers here can offer.

    Seriously.

Agreed, as far as used items goes,to me anyways, once somebody has touched a part with their filthy meat hooks, it's worth 50 percent of new. When I sell, that's where I start pricing. I've also wanted to ask a couple sellers over the years if they were high/drunk/nuts.

Here's a solution - offer what you want to pay. If they take it, great, if they don't, wait or buy something/somewhere else. Who cares if the seller posts a price that seems high to you?

Look at it from the seller's standpoint. As TWC mentioned, some people may price things higher knowing they're going to get low-balled. Not only will you get low-balled, but when you show up at a meeting place after the agreed upon price, you'll get the "I know we agreed on $2000, will you take 1800?"

I don't have an opinion either way about how people price things, but I know from experience, I won't ever post a bike on STR again. And it's too bad, because I sell several bikes a year. My stuff on Craigslist never sits more than a week.

Overpriced ads do not bother me nearly as much as poor spelling and grammar. Life is too short to worry about poorly priced products online. If you want the item, make an offer on the price you think it is worth. Then go hit the trails.

The "over-pricing" and "low-balling" is not just limited to STR. Just about every forum I'm on has the same issue when it comes to buying/selling.

Here is the general formula it seems:

Asking price: $100 / Offered: $50, maybe $75 if you are lucky

Asking price: $80 / Offered: $40, maybe $50 if you are lucky

    etc...

It really doesn't matter how much, or how little you are asking, 9 times out of 10, someone will offer you at least 40%-50% beneath your asking price. Unless they are your friend, in which you most likely will be giving them a bro-deal, that is just the way shit works.

STR is the place to move stuff you don't care about. If you care, then you ask for high market used prices (i.e. ebay/craigslist) and it will sit here in the classifieds forever till you drop your price.

What bothers me the most is when people don't respond to your questions, and there's no phone number so you have to rely on PMs. The last 5 items I was interested in the seller never got back to me and these were newly posted ads. If you want to sell something, GIVE SOME CONTACT INFO!!!!

There are means to contact within the board.

Yes it has come to most of our knowledge the the email function is not working, but you can still send message in classified section by clicking the sellers name or send a PM to the board name within the forum.

I am not putting my phone number or email address out so anyone who looks at my add can have it.

actually no this isnt the forum or website to come to whine....if you want to do that go to mtbr or pinkbike.....I'm sure there are plenty of people that would listen to you.

Its simple really if you dont like the price submit a counteroffer if you and the seller cant come to an agreement dont start a thread whining about it......move on to the next for sale add.....whining gets nothing accomplished and is super lame.

Now when someone tells you hes going to take you on an easy ride and he takes you up harding whine all you want.....
