I have a natural talent for busting his balls. Maybe if I get together enough Downhillers to come race he'll give it a try.

    What you say old man?

Great question! And yes, there will beginners and sport races that make sense. We're trying to get a handle on the right break, because we don't want to rob someone who should win the Beginner race, and at the same time a first time "new rider/racer" should be able to grow by the end of the series into a middle of the pack (worst case finish)

We don't want to cramp your style, and I agree that plate is killer... but we need everyone to run the official OTH plate.

Notably there were some class questions from the first race. We've done our best to sift through the results, but want to ask racers to do the right class this week, before we have to "help them" find their class next week.

Here's our official statement on classes, help us help you. Let people know! Week 3 it won't be an option...

In reviewing Class Finishing times from May 24, 2011 it’s time to take a look at your time, and ask if you are in the appropriate class.
It’s fair to say that the first race surprised you at how well you did, the mud changed the results, etc. However now there are no surprises or excuses.we have identified approximately 40-50 riders we believe should move from Sport to Super Sport or Beginner to Sport.

    • your Sport time was 54 minutes or below (you would have finished tight with Super Sport Racers)
    • your Beginner time was 40 minutes or below
    • you keep 9 races out of 12, for the series, so better to move this week than be moved next week.
    • fast racers change your class at the Check-in table tomorrow
You are responsible to change your class at the Check-In Table tomorrow. Just come tell us you’re moving up a class. If we have another finish like last week in the wrong classes, we the Race Directors will enforce changes the following week. Thanks for your help keeing Over the Hump fun for all levels of racers.
Please observe the guiding principle of Over the Hump – Have Fun! …..Our interpretation is: challenge yourself, finish better than you started, and play fair. –Thank you!

    See you tomorrow.

I KNOW that I am NOT an XC racer, but I did head out the day before and helped the crew with some trail maintenance, rode around a bit and never got to see the SWAMP section until race day; yea, the hay didn't work AT ALL. I'm a total mud weenie- I don't like to get my bike dirty like that, ruins too much stuff- I like buttery smooth drive-trains, so I stay out of it for the most part, but since this was a RACE all bets are off.
I know I wouldn't do that great but I had to at least give it a go. Beg. men (B3) class, placed 40th out of 84- I'm happy with that. The race would have TOTALLY rocked if the swamp was dry- that would be a cool section to actually ride in, dontcha think??!

I agree 100%. I am not sure where you could put a course that would make everyone happy. I would love to see a race around Whiting or something like it. However, with that many riders if pretty rough to get parking and all the things involved in putting on a race that is fun for all. I give the OTH guys huge props. On a personal note the sportmanship was awesome at least in the group I was around. I finished 26th in B3 and had a great laugh with the 25th place B3 who passed me and I passed back several times but I couldn't get going quick enough the last time out of the mud pit. Radical Rich thanks for helping the crew out the day before.
